I know I'm repeating myself, but there's no passion, no sense of selection, to having a bunch of files on a server, no matter how well dressed up in a snazzy UI it is. I actually like taking my time, browsing and picking a CD or LP and putting it on. Gives me time between tracks to think about what I've just listened to and how that links to my next selection. Forces a space between the music, if you like. Things have moved on fella. Now we have roon you get tons of interesting stuff associated with what you are listening to. Much more exciting than simply chucking a boring silver disc into a tray and pressing play, so 1950's LOL

Computer listening is not Hi-Fi period.
I do not understand people that are so set on destroying everything that is associated with this hobby, The regime proper enthusiasts go thru is im afraid part of the love of this hobby. The worse thing you can do is follow industry trends.

Anyway how can any medium become or be dead money, it's the music you've bought no matter how it's delivered.😀

But but but this thread was really about not being able to source a CD player in the future [Please bear in mind that audio enthusiast just wont buy any old player which will make it very very hard].. Thats what the topic is really aimed at.

This is the first 12"er I ever bought. Got it from some mail-order record club I was in decades ago. Not sure if it was Gemm Records. Stonkin' sound. Still have it. Which site is that purchased from? I find myself restricted to Discogs which aint fun, E-Bay i dont even attempt buying records from.. My first 12" was soft cell "Tainted Love" E-BAY!!! If interested, there's a copy for £5: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282455237436Get a Technics, man. Love me SL-P1200. Not the last word in resolution. But it's like a pair of old slippers or a faithful hound. It'll see me out. And I've got plenty spares! Got a one coming from Italy this week.

No matter what, physical copies of: films, TV series, music, *any* media for enjoyment will never ever be dead money as long as it's been played and enjoyed at some point.

A couple of people have suggested if the CD player becomes defunct, then just rip them to file and use streaming.
They've missed a subtle point which is that computer CD/DVD drives are also gradually dying out - most laptops don't have them any more, and I doubt many people use DVD as file backup since it's much easier (not necessarily safer) to dump files to a USB drive.
So when your audio CD player dies, you might find you don't have a computer drive to rip them from..

External USB CD/DVD drives are very common and dead cheap.

12" singles have no value? I've been waiting for this to drop in price for about the past year - but it hasn't. So I thought I'd best get it. £8 with postage. Bought that when it came out. 4 cracking tracks, especially Rose of Cimmaron

So when your audio CD player dies, you might find you don't have a computer drive to rip them from.. Internal (and external) Blu-ray drives have come down in price and the amount of space on a Blu-ray disc (approx 50 GB for a dual layer disc) makes permanent data backup feasible for a while longer. They are also backwards-compatible with your CDs. Not a perfect solution but if nothing else it gives a bit more breathing space before you have to use your CD collection as bird scarers on the allotment.
