Anyone got any views on powering kit with batteries (of any kind)?
My experience is that they sometimes they don't seem to have the current drive of a mains PS. I have heard that they are also noisy.

I use a battery with my Beresford DAC and it's silent, it also appears to power it fine and certainly improved the sound a lot.

My experience is that they sometimes they don't seem to have the current drive of a mains PS. I have heard that they are also noisy. I had two battery powered components. Firstly, a superb prototype Croft phono stage and also a battery power amp. Both completely silent in operation and great performers. I would have liked to have kept the amp longer but didn't quite have enough power in my system.

Batteries transform the Raspberry Pi and Caiman series of DACs.

I have used a battery with a low powered T-Amp and a B/Ford 7510. I would assume that current of no more than 1A or less is being drawn.

Yes, but a T-Amp is a power amp with variable current demands. The idling current is tiny, but the transient demand could be quite substantial. An inappropriatly selected battery could 'squash' it.

I have used a car battery, but they are a bit cumbersome when still attached to the car (you know, charging needs and all that.....)

Hah! Try Yuasa, who make smaller lead-acid batteries for radio controlled models and similar.

Used the Anker battery for two years powering various Beresford DAC's and they work extremely well. Had a battery powered head amp which was a pain cos it needed a new battery every couple of weeks!!
