Oh yes, if one of the 3rd party service breaks as a result of an MS or whoever update, they usually throw their toys out of the pram... but we have to advise them that we still have to provide services, and leaving machines exposed is a liability.

An occasional update causes issues, but on balance you're safer implementing them than not.

We're getting on the case with MacOS student laptops now. One of them is running 10.7, which is 5 versions behind. More work!

Erm well no, but they are less suseptible as they use a Unix derived Kernal. Their spell checkers don't appear to work too well

As the virus writers target MacOS more, the viruses are getting more frequent. We cleaned quite a few recently and I won't allow Macs on our network without an AV package any more.

Think I meant to say Unix derived Kernel. I think Chris was more concerned with the spelling of 'susceptible'.

I agree, I wouldn't allow my Mac to not have a virus checker on it, although the latest OS has a pretty good one inbuilt and their security protocols are generally better than Windows.

They started with a better base: Unix. Microsoft are hampered with support for legacy apps. If they took all that out, Windows would be equally secure. A sign of the future: Windows 10 S.
