Brian Johnson’s A Life on the Road with . . .
Sky Arts, 9pm
The title of this series of rock interviews takes on a more literal meaning this week. Pink Floyd’s drummer Nick Mason is a classic-car nut and is as keen to tell the AC/DC singer about his collection as he is to discuss Floyd’s live years. His vehicles have proved useful — he used his stunning 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, bought in 1973 for £35,000 (now worth £40 million), as collateral to finance the band’s 1987-89 tour after an intra-band legal spat meant that no one would underwrite it. We also see Mason take the car for a spin. We can but dream.

It was well worth watching as Brian Johnson arrived at Nick Mason's secret aerodrome in his Skoda and Nick Mason arrived piloting his helicopter!
Once the doors slid back, the viewer was treated to Nick Mason's incredible collection of classic cars, including the £40,000,000 Ferrari 250 GTO and many others, Aston Martin and a Bentley that Nick's father used to race.
The interview followed Pink Floyd from their days as architecture students at Polytechnic, through Sid Barrett's demise and Gilmour joining the band.
The spat between Roger Waters and the other band members was covered in some detail, together with the evolution of Floyd's touring and their massive stadium gigs.
An excellent anthology and topped off with Nick Mason taking that Ferrari for a spin with Johnson as passenger.

The insurance on that must be £1000s a year Nick always struck me as a nice guy. Did that come across ? Yes. He was very modest about his achievements and admitted that by the time PF produced their first record, he only had about 100 hours on the drums!
