I've noted a big difference over the years between people who have real passions and pursuits in life and those who are knee-deep in the drudgery of existence. So, what are your passions in life, and why?
These are mine...
1. Music. If I had to relinquish all else, this would be my remaining passion. Music is my drug, my fix, it keeps me sane. Both live performance and recorded, they give me equal but different pleasures.
2. Cars. I do love a fast car and enjoy watching F1 in particular. There is something very satisfying to my engineering brain about a car that is running sweetly and to its highest potential.
3. Travel. I've always enjoyed travelling and have been lucky enough to see a reasonable slice of the world in my time. My goal now is to see Peru before I die.
4. Computing. Yes, I do actually enjoy my work and no, I'm not talking about computer games which I abhor. There is a deep satisfaction in setting up complex systems and making them work well.

1. Music. Nuff said. 2. Hiking / biking amidst great scenery. Great fun and keeps me fit. 3. Reading. Science Fiction, Terry Pratchett and PG Wodehouse. SF for its exploration of possibilities. Pratchett and Wodehouse for the sheer joy and humour of their use of the English language; Pratchett for insight into the human condition, Wodehouse for the simple pleasant escapism of his stories. 4. Hifi box swapping - just for the sheer enjoyment of trying different things.

I completely forgot about reading. SF for me too, with the wonderful scenarios and language of Iain M. Banks and Alastair Reynolds my particular favourites.

1. Music (no surprise there) and I'm not ashamed to admit that I love the hi fi that it's played on!
2. I loved sharing my life with a dog. Sadly, she passed away last September, aged 14 years and I can't bring myself to get another just now.
3. Clay Pigeon shooting. This is a relatively new pursuit for me and started with a birthday gift of a days Clay shooting instruction from my other half, two years ago. i could never shoot or kill any living creature, but Sunday mornings in company with some good mates, spent blasting the hell out of clays, sure is therapeutic!
4. Photography. I have some reasonably high end Canon kit and enjoy getting out and about, capturing nature and, well almost anything!
5. Quizes. I keep the grey matter exercised with the daily puzzles in the Times and meet up with four other friends from my school days for a pub quiz.
6. History. This overlaps with reading I suppose, as I generally don't read fiction. I consume History avidly and if I watch an historically correct film or TV series, I have to know what happened before and after and this leads me to read a lot.
7. Coarse Fishing. A few years ago, I was fanatical and every weekend would see me beside a lake or river. Now that I am fully retired, I hope to take it up again.

1. Music - think all of us should logically have this on our list.
2. Movies - I love a good Thriller, Shoot'em up, or Rom-Com.
3. TV - I like a good TV series.
4. Family - I love spending time with my family (excluding the Mother-In-Law who I loathe) - looking forward to spending quality time with our baby when they arrive.
5. Swimming - don't do enough, but really enjoy it.
6. Badminton - wanted to join another club, but due to my heart condition, none of the local clubs will allow me to, which is annoying.
7. Cataloging - the anally retentive side of me coming out in full force, I really enjoy and find it quite relaxing to catalog my Music and Movie collections, mad I know!

1. Music. Has to be. 2. The various dogs we have and have had. Wonderful to have them around although can be a pain sometimes. Always heartbreaking when they die. 3. Cycling. Started to help my rubbish knee then took to enjoying it immensely 4. Yoga and Pilates. Good for me and enjoyable 5. Good TV and films 6. Reading, of which I do far too little these days. That is going up slightly 7. Learning new stuff. New Scientist one of my main suppliers. Somewhere in there I also need to put my darling other half. Right at the top if she ever reads this

Think about it I should have added the fact that I like Cats and having lots of them around the house, currently we have 5.

Making things. Anything, something, I seem to have such a short attention span for most things but can get stuck in to building a 'thing' and world can piss off for a few hours. Something reasonably challenging is better so i dont lose interest until ive worked out how to do it.
Perhaps thats why ive ended up doing what I do

Hifi and music - I like the looks of a good system and a bit valve rolling too. Being outside. A walk with the dog. Truly one of life's great pleasures. Good food and drink. Usually my own cooking and a good bottle of beer. My wee Merc. Reading - books or kindle. Peace and quiet. Decent scenery. My garden.

The same top one as everyone else: Music - as much and as often as possible. Travel - always looking forward to the next trip away The natural world - not unrelated to the above: forests, mountains, deserts, plants, animals Photography - inept but prolific photographer! Reading - non fiction and especially music and travel writing Cheese!

1) family and friends (but that is prob a given for many). 2) Making things, creating, repairing, using tools to craft 3) Playing and watching tennis. Love it. ATP, WTA Grandslams, Davis and Hopman cup etc.. 4) Motorsport, used to participate now I watch. I don't give a stuff about road cars as long as they work. Okay my Sevens started out as road cars, but I worked the stupidity of 'very fast road' out of my system 4) Music and theatricals - I'll include films and dramas here. 5) Good food, but it has to be healthy. Nothing beats a great fresh home baked wholemeal spelt sour dough bread. 6) Keeping fit and supple, so I can play tennis and do the other things I want too. It doesn't always work out though, as my recent cream-crackered back bears testament to. 7) most of the time, life in general..
