I shall be travelling down to The ASBO next weekend and, due to the distance, I'm going to have to book a room in a Traveldodgy or somewhere for the Saturday night. I'm thinking I might get on the road and a little way away from Reading before I get my head down for the night. So, I need to book somewhere along the route. Trouble is, when I look for the best route I'm given three options, none of which are the one I had imagined I'd be using. So, has anyone got a little local knowledge of the best route to the M6 toll road from that neck of the woods? Here are the three routes that Google has suggested, while I had imagined going west a little on the M4 towards Newbury then north on the A34 towards Oxford and the M40. I was thinking of bagging a room near Newbury, Oxford or somewhere in between. Any thoughts guys?

Take the A4074 Oxford Road north from Reading, then it's the M40 to Brum. Nice quiet road, you won't fully appreciate it at night but it's still one of the best roads in the south.

A34, M40, M1 would be my chosen route north as I'm in Newbury and about 5 mins from the A34. You could get a room in or around Bicester which is at the top of the A34 where you join the M40.

I'm beginning to think that after probably setting off from here at 5 or 6 am, I won't want to be driving too far at 11pm-ish, so I'll probably just stay the night a bit closer - Reading or Newbury seem the best bets - Oxford or Bicester are going to get me there at midnight or something. Too much! Travelodge at Newbury Chievely looks like the best/cheapest bet to me.

Good idea, there's plenty of options in either Reading or Newbury.
