I've never owned a copy of Photoshop or any drawing software. I find myself needing to draw things really quite often and, once I grew out of MS Paint (which took about 5 minutes!), I discovered the graphics tools that come with the some of the MS Office programs. They've become really quite good over the years but they have their limitations, so I'm looking for recommendations for something a bit better.
Doing a Google search reveals the fact that the web is stuffed full of people pushing their software but I need a pointer from someone who has actually used and likes something. Any ideas guys?
Something that comes with a tutorial on how to use it would be a bonus!

In case anyone is wondering what I meant about drawing with the MS Office graphics tools, this is something I did using Excel!

Don't have an answer but I have to say I'm staggered you did that in Excel !
Does Page plus give you anything like this ?

The major problem is the learning curve with the main contenders. Gimp is a great free substitute for Photoshop but it's easily as complex. More often than not it's impossible to just pick one up and start creating. Having said that it looks like what you probably want is a substitute for Illustrator rather than 'shop; something vector based. I must stress, like all forum users offering advice about anything, I haven't used these but... I've heard good things about Inkscape and Vectr looks good too. There's also Microsoft Expression Design but I know absolutely nothing about it.

Thanks Paul. Your suggestions look like a good place to start. I'll take a look at Expression Design first. Not that I have any special love for Microsoft but I reckon there's more likely to be more help on YouTube that a simpleton like me can understand for a product from them.

Have a look at xara. It's not free but its not Photoshop prices. It's now owned by a German company but the graphics product derives from acorn computers. It's fast, fairly intuitive, nearly professional and reasonably priced. First class support and tutorials

Thanks Richard, I'll take a look at that too, though I'd probably carry on as I am with Excel rather than pay for something, as it's not a thing I would be using a lot.
