What the title says - I've just picked one up as an alternative+ to a DAB tuner. Does anybody have any experience of said beast?

No personal experience, but I do know it/they won't work without having Logitech Media Server running somewhere on your network.

As Strat says, you have to use LMS which is Logitech's equivilant of UPnP. The Duet is better than the original Logitech Squeezebox 3 or otherwise known as the Classic but not quite as good as the Logitech Squeezebox Touch.

The reason it's called The Duet is because Logitech partnered 2 devices, The Controller, and The Receiver, into one box for sale. The Controller can be used to control any Squeezebox device. The receiver is just a rendering device. If I recollect correctly, Dave the Bass has a Controller (he certainly used to), and is familiar with any quirks with the device. He can be found at www.audio-talk.co.uk/phpBB3/

Oh yes, the Comtroller and Receiver came as a package, although I bought a Controller separately to use with my Touch. You can get an app on iPhones and iPads that turns your smart phone into a controller.

Cheers for the input guys. I just needed something that was reasonably useful and wife-friendly at the same time. That controller looks to fit the bill.

You need a receiver, SB Touch or SB Classic/3 to use the controller, I.e. The controller itself is just a posh remote, not a Streamer like the others.

Yup, bought the package as in the pic in my first post. What I was saying was that the hopefully user-friendly controller part of the package influenced my purchase.

Oh sorry Paul I missunderstood, yes the controller is very user-friendly. LMS can be a bit finickety, only advise I'd say is ensure if the machine running LMS has a firewall, it allows access to the IP address or preferably MAC address used by the receiver to avoid connection issues.

Interesting, I always wondered what that 3.5mm jack was for on the controller, just assumed it was for software updates etc.

Very interesting. I shall have to see just how bad (or good) it sounds through headphones. Thanks for the info.

As the Duet was the final part of the puzzle I've been able to prototype the system. I'm hoping it will end up laid out like this.

Nice 3D rendering there, Paul. A very quick and dirty render Martin. Some of my better renders are here and here now I've discovered imgur.com

Have you got the combo playing in your system yet? I see four posts of time wasted, rendering images of the damned thing, and nothing about setting things up

I see four posts of time wasted, rendering images of the damned thing, and nothing about setting things up I do apologise for not moving at a pace that suits you. Unfortunately there are few "physical" things that need doing before I can set it all up and ill-health is preventing me from doing them at the moment. Nice of you to be frustrated on my behalf though, that's one less thing for me to worry about. Save
