They sound far better with sorbothane underneath in my system and some of my friends Agreed, my S1NX shelf sounds best with sorbothane pucks underneath and the turntable on RDC cones above. I've tried a LOT of supports underneath and sorbothane is king - for the turntable, that is.

Sorbothane should be used IMO on areas of the deck which are placed under high vertical load i.e. the feet and nowhere else. It surpresses vibration by being loaded with a vertical weight or compression. I use sorbothane a lot under washers when I'm trying to improve the coupling of a plinth design. My Lenco 75 being a good exAnchovyle (see the development thread elsewhere in this forum). I do think sorbothane sucks the life out of Manta and I've tried Sorbothane feet on my 1210 to my great disdain and disgust with respect to what it did to my soundstage and is why I went down the route of Bamboo and spiked feet.

Are these boards worth trying underneath pre or power amps?

I would suspect that they would probably stop any transformer based vibration from getting into a turntable from the pre and power amp, but I honestly wouldn't want to comment on if they would the sonics coming from them.

My solution is, lots of sorbothane feet (too support the not inconsiderable mass), a granite chopping board, a layer of mdf and then three Still points under the granite plinth of the deck. I tested my way forward to just that combo, back in the day when I had energy for such things

]Next time your passing Mangler pop in and borrow some soft rubber pads to put underneath Thanks for the loan, and you're not having 'em back (the hemispheres that is - t'other ones are still in their pack) Looks like the beers are on me next time.

Morrisons supermarkets sell laminated bamboo chopping boards. I bought a small one for £3. Have just put it under my recently obtained Graham Ingle design (Black Cat) amplifier electronics (PSU is in a separate large box). Hmm. These bamboo board things do make a difference. More lucid and naturally relaxed, musically fluid. I put some large (40mm) sorbothane hemispheres under and imaging improved but the whole presentation went a bit lazy. Now with 3 ceramic cones under the board and am really quite impressed - got the musical excitement back but still retained the improved image focus and natural fluidity that the bamboo board seems to allow through.

... I've been listening all afternoon to old and new tracks/albums and the improvement is rather more than I thought at first. The whole soundstage kind of projects out now, much bolder and more 'present'. Quite a change, actually.
