That would do it! Don't underestimate the importance of a good service and set-up.

Technics is a nice machine and looks great, but overpriced IMHO. Studers et al are silly money now too. Best machine at a sane price is the Tascam BR20. I've heard one a few times and it sounds as good as Studers etc IMO.

Assuming you get one what are you gonna play on it?
The blank reels cost £80
I have a Technics RS1500 J-Corder and a Studer B67
Don't waste your money on anything apart from these 2 brands.
I am lucky as 2 of my friends are totally obsessed with R2R's and know more between them than most mortals, Dave Cawley and Tim not included of course!.
The B67 has been away for 6 months being up-graded, it arrived back in the UK today and its now a GAMUT B67!
I invite anyone interested to come to my new shop when it opens end of May for a listen of the B67.
If you are truly serious about R2R accept the guidance of these experts and you will have a machine that wipes the floor sonically against ANY turntable regardless of cost.

Hi,
Dave, thanks for the info. I'll have to come over to Hudds and visit your new place, what's the address? Is it still in Huddersfield town centre?

Its in the town centre chief we don't move in until May but it will be worth visiting just to hear my Studer!
I was also going to ask about a Yorkshire hifi club but could not contact you via AOS for obvious reasons!
If any TAS members are interested shout out!

Right, looks like we are invading Dave's place. I originally started making noises about starting a audio club in west yorkshire but never got around to anything, mainly because I run several businesses and have a young family, so family and personal time is scarce. Things are a little difference in that I now have a bit more time on my hands but I still wouldn't want to be saddled with the workload of setting up and maintaining a new club. Response was quite favourable with people from Leeds, Wakefield and Sheffield wanting to know when I intended setting up.

The new place has a huge basement which will be set up with the very best kit I have but is also big enough for people to bring their own gear if they fancy a play about!
There is a superb pub I may have already mentioned across the road, Tesco literally 10 yards away and a guest house plus numerous hotels near by and also Yorkshire's best curry house Nawaab about 1/4 mile away.
So happy to have it as a HQ for hifi meets etc.

Sounds good, I know Huddersfield town centre like the back of my hand but can't place Tesco's (scary, old timers disease must be kickin' in)!

Only just caught up on this this thread and as R2R and Cassette are an interest of mine I have PM'd Martin proposing that a couple of sub forums might be dedicated to the mediums and machines.
