Kenny Anderson is a Scottish singer songwriter who goes by the name of King Creosote , from his back catalogue of over forty albums he chose seven songs. In collaboration with multi-instrumentalist and electronica whizzkid Jon Hopkins the songs were re-worked to produce Diamond Mine. The album was shortlisted for the 2011 Mercury Music Prize . Its very understated and requires careful listening , I had it on repeat and wasn't taking much notice until something clicked. The following year a Jubilee Edition was released with five more tracks , I have this copy , I had to buy the download as its very rare and expensive.

Listening to it at the moment, so far I am really liking it. I must look up more King Creosote as I have heard of them before but never really investigated any further.
I particularly like the first track which is quite atmospheric.
Think I'll go with a 7/10, thanks for the introduction Barry.

I really like Jon Hopkins. Recommend him on his own to everyone Cannot get on with Kenny Anderson's voice at all. Vocals are an odd issue. I like some voices a lot and cannot work out what it is.
4/10 from me

I like Jon Hopkins too, after Mike introduced me to him. Listening to this now.

It started well and I love the gentle melancholy of it. However, as with Mike, his voice is starting to grate. There's a touch of Rufus Wainwright whine in there which is causing some wincing. Nevertheless, 6/10.

I'm still trying to work out why I like certain vocals and don't like others I think Dylan whines, don't like him, but Neil Young also whines, do like him. I like Rufus Wainwright even though he is an acquired taste Bon Scott big yes Brian Johnson, no thanks.

I played this the other night. I think I quite like it. Another few more plays required, I think.

I agree about vocals. Why do I like Mark Knopfler's singing (in Dire Straits and solo), which is constrained to say the least, but cannot abide Rufus Wainwright? Why do I love Sia's singing (in Zero 7 and solo), which is powerful but where she does odd things with it, but cannot stand Adele? I don't ask myself why I dislike Joanna Newsom's singing, because it's obvious to anyone who listens to her
