This new Sony Xperia XZ Premium phone packs some very impressive technology. Shoots 960fps at 720p. I remember not so long ago getting very excited shooting 150fps on film cameras - quite amazing how this feature is now available in such a compact size. The 'Minority Report' style projection looks great as well. The problem is how many of these are Sony going to shift at over a grand per unit?? Looks like I'll be sticking to my first gen Xperia Z which is still going strong ...

In practice, users can only capture 0.18 seconds of footage at this speed, which produces six seconds of video when played back. How useful in the real world ?

I think it’s pretty cool - shooting at these frame rates is only interesting to capture very quick action in the first place - something like jumping in a deep puddle or a boxer's punch ...
I think punters could have a lot of fun with it …

One would need to be very lucky to exactly capture 0.18 seconds of movement by manually pressing a button.
In reality most people would miss the action.
As I say, not much use in the real world, but good technology none the less.

Sure it's not perfect, but a big step in the right direction for video on smart-phones ...

I am pretty sure that technology was state of the art in Edwardian times Jules. Mind you, if there have been no improvements, I suppose it is still 'state of the art'.
