Fnished these a couple of weeks ago: They are folded, quarter wave transmission line speakers, inspired by the late 1960s Larson Pyramid, with a dash of Allison 6 and NVA cube thrown in concerning the semi-omni configuration of up-firing bass/mid and forward firing tweeter. The transmission line exit fires downwards at the floor and exits via tha trapezioid arches around the base of the truncated pyramid cabinet. 22 inches tall, 16 x 16 inches around the base and rather nice soundng.

Are those snacks for a lengthy listening session?

They look neat (the speakers, that is). What are the valve amps?

Entirely impressed Steve, would love to hear what they sound like. May be a daft question as bass is often not controlled by soft furnishings. However do you think there would be a difference in sound if the speakers were sitting on a surface that could deflect the bass better such as granite etc? Rather than sitting on carpet and underlay?

Yep, they work better in the bass when placed on hard floors than on carpets. You can't see from the pics, but the speakers have granite chopping boards underneath them. When I designed my original direct radiating "Metronome" quarter wave speakers way back in 2006, a guy in Canada on the DIYAudio forum built some of his own and placed a large ceramic tile under his speakers because unlike in most American/Canadian homes, his were on a carpeted floor. The rest is history.

Very nice build quality, Steve. What are the drivers?
I like granite chopping boards/placemats, use them a lot for resonance control.

.... better not let wifey see them as she'd love them. WAF is the entire reason for their existence.

Finally after around 12 years, we have somewhere nice to house the source components of the system: Must say, the IKEA BESTÅ TV unit, customised with drawers for bits and bobs, looks nice with our Ant's BTE designs remagined Lenco atop it. The Omnis look well with it too. WAF in spades, has always been the aim with my speaker designs, if you forget the hideous looking open baffles with active bass amps, I flirted with a few years ago; let's just put those out of our minds shall we? The WAF combined with top quality sound problem has been cracked. It's taken 11 years but it can be done.
