I didn't even know what 'dropshipping' is until recently - basically the seller doesn't even handle the stock - they simply place an order elsewhere for a lower price than you have paid them and get it shipped directly to you. I have found that now masses of people are using Amazon to do this.
For example I ordered a watch strap for £28 on ebay and noticed it was sent using 'Amazon logistics' - looked on Amazon and it was available for £17.99 - whoops!
So my advice is to always check the price on Amazon if you can ...

There may be problems (if purchasing by credit card) if the item proves faulty and you claim on your credit card provider.
It's because (as you say) the goods come from someone other than who you paid.

I have been using drop shipments for years. Customers who are outside Europe are sent their order from the factory in Taiwan. That gets round the EU VAT 20% charge.

Never heard of it. The best thing to come out of E-Bay for me is the ability to pick up your purchases from a selected Argos store which is great cos i work just down from one. All you do is: E-Bay send you a message to say its been delivered to the store, Print off the Pick up number & bobs your uncle, no more missed deliveries by couriers while your at work..

Businesses have used the principle for years. When I order Lenovo laptops from Insight (our supplier), they are always shipped from Lenovo. Insight effectively use Lenovo as their extended warehouse.

Ah, so that's what drop shipping is - my MBL speakers were drop shipped getting on for 7 years ago. Ordered from Audio Emotion they came direct from the factory in Germany.

Yes but what I'm referring to is Joe Bloggs sitting at home listing anything he thinks might sell on ebay that he can buy cheaper on Amazon UK the same day and then ship out for free using Amazon Prime.

Well, you were happy with the price or you wouldn't have paid it.
The seller is happy with the deal as he makes a bit of wedge giving you the product you want.
And the Amazon seller presumably keeps the wolf from the door.
Win win win!
