Please don't plaster the thread with the Brand that audio guys have this strange compulsion to always hanker after.
Any way ill start off with the superb Hitach D4500' I would give my back teeth for one of these.

I had two early solid Aiwa's - an AD1500 and an AD1800. Eq's didn't match later machines so recordings made on these wouldn't sound good on say, a Nak. I was also given an early Technics, a 626 I think it was.
Later on, I had a TEAC 7000, a battleship of a thing but slightly muffled sound on playback, I should have got the 8000 instead.
I also had the original NEAL Wollensack model with knackered idlers and a Tandberg TCD 310 - again, eq doesn't match later machines..
Sorry Andr'e, but Nakamichi established the playback response eq standards that other makers used as a reference I remember.

I also had a Walkman WM-D3, the mini Professional. And yes, I did use it to bootleg a couple of gigs. Lovely machine.

Not the last word in quality, but the only affordable reel deck available during my student days. I was much in demand for parties, as a reel would last for hours and you didn't need to change records every 20 minutes. I'm not admitting where I got the music from though... link
