Hello all,
I was just having a chat with Jerry (jandl) on another forum and he made a very cryptic reference to someone who likes Christina Pluhar and L'Arpeggiatta. A bit of head scratching and googling and I found this forum which sounds very much to my liking. So here I am!
I live down in East Sussex at the moment with a cat who likes Bach (strange choice for a cat) and a pair of MBL126 speakers. Very much the babies of their range but not lacking down to about 600Hz as they share the top two omni drivers with the rest of their range. Below 600Hz they still sound good but run out of deep bass and need to be paired with a sub.
Looking forward to getting involved.

Hello Malcolm and welcome to TAS. Yep, guilty as charged, I have quite a few Pluhar albums with All'Improvviso being my favourite.
So what do you have partnering the MBLs?

Welcome from me too Malcolm ...
I have a great fondness for East Sussex as I always used to spend summers down in Seaford back in the day ...
Your cat must be very sophisticated - what great taste in music!

I think All'Improviso is the album I have played more than any other, although "Music for A While" is fast catching up. The Kapsberger (track 12) on All'Improviso is very useful for tuning in a sub and setting the level of bass in a system.
My main music system starts of with a fanless Intel NUC computer running JRiver with some judicious room correction. USB out to a Chord 2Qute, then out to a Hegel H360 and then on to the MBLs which are filled in with a large SVS sub, crossing over at about 65 Hz. Control is using JRiver's excellent JRemote iPad App which is configurable enough to work well with a mostly classical library.
The MBLs are fairly recent, one of those itches that had to be scratched - if Jerry keeps a speaker for six years then it must have some decent qiualities!). The Hegel was bought to give enough welly to drive Martin Logans so that violins played high and loud didn't screech - well, subject to player and recording of course. The Hegels seem to match the MBLs very well, to the extent that I haven't felt any inclination to try a valve amp with them - yet...

Welcome to TAS Malcolm
All'Improviso is a stunner. Track 3 being very useful to test for new bits of kit - and I never tire of it anyway
Los Impossibles is also very good, only slightly behind All'Improviso If you can get the one with the DVD you can see where they record and how and what they play

Nice to see you here, Malcolm. I had no idea you had MBL speakers!!! Hegel amp, eh? Hmm, interesting. I've not heard one of those.

The Hegel looks very interesting. Perhaps you might review yours sometime, Malcolm?

Many thanks for the welcome East Sussex is still a pleasant part of the world, but like so many places becoming ever busier. My previous cat wasn't over keen on music and would search out somewhere quieter with one ear pressed to the bed and the other covered by a paw, but she did seem to tolerate Bach and stay in the room with me - Shostakovich on the other hand she hated. My current cat is much more easy going but when Bach is on he will invariably sit on my lap and purr contentedly. I'll certainly give some thought to a write up on the Hegel, although its features are more interesting then its sound quality as it just gets on with the job without imparting any of those little characteristics we so love to listen for and debate. Yes Jerry, my arrival here is all your fault, as are the MBLs - well sort of. I was vaguely aware of them but your having some for such a long time led to a bit of research. I'm not keen on box speakers, preferring dipoles, so the next logical step was to try a pair of omnis. When a pair appeared on eBay from a dealer who seemed to well thought of, and at a very tempting price, it would have been rude to refuse. Even in my not ideal room they sound wonderful in so far as I don't really notice them and feel much more connected with the performers.
