im not sure, yeah pl-71 is the same, there are other pl mats about but nothing like mine i might consider gluing mine down with pva adhesive,i tried double sided tape but it didnt hold the platter rom moving for long. i dont know what its made off, some sort of plastic by the looks of it,if its put in hot water it becomes very pliable

Rubber tends to harden with age. There are a few videos online showing that it can be softened again by immersion in a combination of either Isopropyl Alcohol or Xylene together with oil of wintergreen. Worth watching a few Youtubes and maybe giving it a go.

They use these on rubber motor parts that have hardened with age, so it might just work.

You want a Linn felt mat, man.
Bound to sound better.
Bound to.

You try and help people, and what do you get? What do you get?
Looking on the 'net, that wintergreen's supposed to be somewhat toxic. Said to be effective, though.
Another is to spray with silicone spray and place I an airtight bag for 3-7 days, checking for suppleness, and when achieved, place in boiling water.
Another is microwave at 5 second stages. I'd want to try this with something that could be sacrificed first.
A Linn feltie would be a lot less hassle, though - and bound to sound better.

trust me it doesn't,ive got one here, the trouble is the platter rings like a bell, with the original mat its as dead as a dodo, ive also tried linn/reso mat combo and also a space deck mat, none of them are as good as the oem one. re the winter green oil ive also read its very toxic,i'll try some on the dog first ive given the mat in the meantime a good spray with mr sheen, that has slowed the return back to hardness down an made it more supple

I use a rubber mat on my LP12 as I prefer the sound (plus no issue with static). You could maybe try moisturiser or leather cream on the rubber and see if that helps?

well believe it or not i found on the web that wintergreen oil has the same chemical in it as aspirin! so last night i went over the chemist and bought 4 boxes and put them in some hot water and let the mat simmer for an hour and a half, well its worked to a degree, its about 50% better than before and still the same tonight. my wintergreen oil has turned up so i going to do the same with that.
