Thought it was about time we had an individual thread for this we can update ... Tonight on BBC Four 7pm is the start of a nice looking archive based three parter - 'Chamber Music at the BBC.' It kicks off with Yehudi M. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03p7p6q

And at 8pm we have 'Young, Gifted and Classical: The Making of a Maestro'
also on BBC Four. All about Young Musician 2016 winner Sheku Kanneh-Mason and his family, "the film explores what it means to be a young, black, classical musician in today's society."
It's a shame that this particular angle is newsworthy in its own right in 2016, but should be an interesting programme ... www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b083d749

I've watched about half of this concert so far. Waltzes and Polkas not normally my kind of thing but it's so infectious such is the zest of the conductor and orchestra. The orchestra obviously enjoy working with the ebullient Mr Dudamel. The hall is so achingly beautiful, I would love to go. Each year they do an on-line ballot for the Xmas and New Year's concerts but as you might expect, ticket prices are prohibitive unless you want to stand at the back for two hours! I would choose to see the Vienna Phil over the Berlin Phil in its current incarnation any day of the week. Berlin under Rattle plays with polish but Vienna play with polish, passion and joy.

The VPO used to be utterly brilliant under Eugen Jochum. That man had total command over them but you could see the respect in both directions. I went to some thrilling performances by them at the Albert Hall a lifetime ago.

There is an absolute gem this afternoon 4.15 on the London Live channel, featuring the divine Margot Fonteyn dancing with the Royal Ballet - Stravinsky's The Firebird, Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and Henze's Ondine. Even if you aren't a big ballet fan like me there is some jaw-droppingly beautiful music on offer here! www.londonlive.co.uk/programmes/the-royal-ballet

The programme about Sheku Kanneh-Mason was very good, and the angle about him being black was a non issue compared to the joyous music making and wonderful talent.
He really is going to be a cellist to look out for. His performance of the Shostakovich First Cello Concerto in the final of Young Musician was astonishing in his understanding of the contrasting facets of Shostakovich's psyche without resorting to exaggerations to get across the point. I have never been so moved by this piece.

I noticed a Shampoo ad last night that uses the Mahler music that the 80's Castrol 'GTX' Ad did..

I remember watching that the first time around. I may well watch it again.
