It does sound interesting, I guess the only way to watch it is through Amazon. I don't have an account but my friend does and I seem to be able to tap into his account and watch it, which is great ! I quite liked the new Top Gear, but I really struggled with Chris Evans, so I wonder how Grand Tour will compare ? I'll watch it tonight.

I'm not a great lover of Top Gear or Jeremy Clarkson for that matter. I don't dislike the man either though and I even find him mildly amusing. Much of what he's said is tongue in cheek yet people seem to take him literally. For all his foibles, he's head and shoulders above Chris Evans. How on earth did the BBC think they could replace him with such an annoying creep? He's somebody I find very easy to dislike and many others feel likewise. If they wanted another Clarkson they chose the wrong person. Good luck to the trio on their trip down the Amazon

Well I just watched the Grand Tour on Amazon. On the whole I liked the cars, who wouldn't? But I really did find the old Top Gear presenters really annoying like they were when they did present Top Gear. I used to adore Top Gear as a kid, it was all about the cars and simply nothing else. Now it's all about personalities, but it's not even that; three intelligent journalists put on this act where they are bumbling fools and it drives me nuts. Anyway back to Grand Tour, yes love the cars, dislike the presenters but I'm sure I will keep on watching. If I had to decide between the two car shows I would choose the new Top Gear. BTW Glad Chris Evans has gone, wonder who they will replace him with.

It makes the recent BBC attempt to have all the production and writing quality of Dr Who in the 60s. Quaint and great for its time but past its sell by date. GT was great on our big screen. The sound was good too.

I never watched the Chris Evans version as I find him too annoying nowadays. He used to be excellent on Don't Forget Your Toothbrush but fame and money has gone to his head.
Watched the first episode of Grand Tour this morning on the train, some laugh out loud moments and back to top form IMO.

Just watched it - better than I thought it would be, though a bit unevenly balanced, presenter-wise (i.e. James May hardly had any input)

I'm not sure I'd agree with that - Chris Evans had a long spell off prime time TV screens and I actually think his failure on Top Gear was more down to almost trying too hard to make it work rather than ego, fame and money. It came across as a bit desperate, whereas Clarkson and co are so relaxed in their respective roles and just make it look effortless ...

I typed "the grand tour" into Google, and it came up with some sites to watch it on.
Must admit I thought it was excellent.
Really looking forward to the next one.

The knobs are quite good, Mike although, on reflection perhaps that wasn't the best way to describe it. With only one show gone the impression I get is that loads of cash has been thrown at it and the aim is for every episode to have at least the production values of one of the old Top Gear Specials. Time will tell though, and obviously I have no real idea of the budget for subsequent episodes. Maybe they blew it all on episode one and the rest of the series will be broadcast from a nissen hut in Wiltshire.

Spread over 36 episodes, that's £4.5 million a show"
Yes, it's a rather pricey series!

Yes, it's a rather pricey series! Holy cow, that sounds like a lot of cash, mind you i have no idea how much TV shows cost to make That I can help with a little. It is very expensive indeed for TV. Let’s take a 30 sec commercial, say a relatively cheap one at 50K for 30 secs. For an hour that would work out at 6 million I reckon. So The Grand Tour is being made on commercial style, not general broadcast TV budgets. But, it is *extremely* expensive to make and I don’t just mean the salaries - travel and production facilities round the world are inevitably pricey. Filming cars beautifully takes a long time. Trust me I’ve done it. There is a lot of rigging to do and lots of different takes to get the perfect shot. It takes a long time, and time is money … However, they should be extremely efficient at this since there is such experience in the production team.

Thanks Jules
Perhaps Amazon look at this as a loss leader or maybe they think they will get their money back
