Ok Im well out my depth here so the best I can do is advise you to look for Apple Lossless. It might exist it might not.
Start a google search - I would but I'm going in the bath!

I don't believe that iTunes does anything higher than lossy formats I'm afraid. I'd agree with Vjris though, do a search on google and see what you can find.

Sell them on eBay or Gumtree and buy the Amazon vouchers you need with the money, you'll take a hit, but better to have what you want IMO?

You are allowed to sell them then ? Yeah no problem, all people need is the number/code from the back so you don't even need to post them just email the number/code to buyer. Not sure if any deals around for iTunes as they sometimes do £25 for £20 so not sure what they're worth.

Make sure that the card has been validated. Apple don't have proper control over the sale of the cards, and if the card hasn't been validated they require receipts before they will validate it. If Apple had proper control over the sale of the cards they'd be able to double check everything back to the number on the credit card (and therefore the person making the purchase) used to buy the Apple card.
My son received one last Christmas, tried to use it a few months back, and has never been able to get anything from the Apple store because of the above situation. My opinion of Apple is not great.

My son tried to buy something from the Apple online store. You might be able to determine the whether or not yours has been validated by enquiring through the Apple store.
