A friend recommended this album, and I listened to it for the first time around two weeks ago.
I was so impressed with it I listened to it 2 or 3 times in a row so decided I had to share it 😀
I hope everyone likes it as much as I do 😜

Unfortunately I am allergic to most jazz-oriented music. It just doesn't work for me and it gives me the creeps listening to it.

I took a look at the info on the cover of this CD and was interested to read that there is quite a bit of piccolo bass playing on it - "the sounds that you might think are a guitar are in fact a piccolo bass" - that kind of thing. This immediately made me want to give it a listen.
That's the good bit.
Unfortunately, the style of music just isn't something that stimulates me whatsoever. I suppose if I had to stick it in a genre pigeon-hole (something I really don't like doing), I would call it smooth jazz. It's very American sounding, and I'm afraid it just makes me think of Californian shopping malls. Sorry Paul, it's not for me.
However, I took a listen to some of his other stuff and found a something a tiny bit more to my taste in 'Standards'
Still a bit smooth and polished, but far more listenable for me. Also 'Metal' is interesting, coming off a bit more Jeff Beck....
Now, that's much more like it!
So, although I didn't like the album at all (not one little bit!!), it gave me an interesting look at the work of someone totally new to me. Thanks Paul.

You should try the album 'Wood' which is a little more contemporary Jazz sounding and if I am honest my preferred album of his but I also like Choices quite a lot. Funny isn't it, but I like the laid back smooth Jazz sound of this album. Like we have said this is a great opportunity to hear music you would otherwise not necessarily come across and get to appreciate it (or not so much in your case ).

The CD has arrived. Had a quick (very quick) listen and came to post here. Then saw I'd already had a quick go on Spotify that I'd forgotten about and had posted a comment! Sorry Paul - I'll review them as they come to me in future.
Yes, smooth jazz, spot on John. If I was a laidback lounge lizard I would probably like this.
Good musicianship, I can appreciate that. Very good sq, too. But completely not my style - such things played at a hifi show are guaranteed to have me scurrying from the room!

It reminds me of David Sanborn A Change of Heart meets Acoustic Alchemy. Nice guitar but rarely rips Very well recorded album A bit too smooth for me with elements of Jazz funk. I like my Jazz a bit more challenging

Tricky one, this. I've just been listening to it and the comments about good SQ are spot on - it's astounding. The playing is also very good indeed.
I was intrigued by the 'there are no guitars in this recording...' blurb. Well, it may be piccolo bass but isn't that actually a guitar?
Now for the music. It reminded me of Level 42 on an off day and is too smooth with tunes that are strangely not catchy at all. Very hi-fi demo style but not very satisfying to listen to. Then I listened to Metal posted above by Chris. Now that is FAR more interesting! I'm going to be playing a lot more of that.

..... Then I listened to Metal posted above by Chris. Now that is FAR more interesting! I'm going to be playing a lot more of that. Aha, right, yup. Lounge Lizard Mode is set to OFF ! Much more listen-worthy. Fine playing and very listenable for this listener. I shall be coming back to Metal. So, thanks Paul, this has ended up as a very worthwhile intro to the artist. -- out of curiosity, what do you think of Metal? Here's the full album

I'm afraid I just cannot get away with this musical style. For whatever reason I find myself unable to engage with it, finding little that is memorable. After a second listen the first two tracks were the only ones that sort of made any impression that stayed with me.
It did sound good and was well played. I'll give it that.

Fair enough, before you give up on the artist, try the albums 'Metal' as mentioned by Jerry above or 'Wood' as they have different styles but still the same excellent production and musicianship.
