Part 2 of my big hifi shuffle yesterday.
Isis goes from the bottom of one rack to the top of another, leads changed from Yannis XLR as too short to Tellurium RCA
Play Horrible 'digital' off and on with the music Persevere, same. Leads in and out, same. Puzzle Ah the techie answer - turn Isis off and on Better, not perfect Puzzle Keep asking the right question - I thought. I took it off one rack, carefully put it down on an MDF board and then back on another rack - I did nothing else ! It's broken. I'll have to send it back to Rega - curses Did I do anything else ? No Did I do anything else ? (x a lot) Oh yes I did....... That careful wipe over the top loading CD area to remove dust with an antistatic cloth
Dust on the lens ? Best way to clean ? Vacuum too harsh ? Will a hairy vac brush cause static ?
I can use a CD cleaner but I'd like to get any and all dust out

Ah nasty, Mike.
Did you happen to catch the lens assembly while wiping over with a cloth? You may have caused the positioning mechanism some damage or maybe dislodged the lens. In switching to single-ended, did you remove the balanced cables from that input?
Otherwise, it may have to go back to Rega.

I may have touched the lens but I was so gentle and careful
Left the balanced cables in but not connected at the other end
They are out now
Is a vacuum too harsh for the dust, with or without hairy brush ?

Too harsh! Use a camera puffer brush anywhere near the mech.

I'll certainly check after cleaning
One reason for the Mana/kit shuffle was to put the Isis up nice and high rather than about 1' off the ground. Now it is a small bend for me to look into everything rather than hidden in a rack with the shelf above in the way and doing that on my knees.
I was not happy how dusty the Isis was there

If you have carpet, there will be much more dust collected on a bottom or lower shelf. This really applies to hardwood floors as well, if you have pets.
I tend to put light cloths over my equipment when not in use (unless it's a digital source component in which case I leave them on and uncovered for safety). On your Isis it's likely better to leave it uncovered, but that's not as much of a problem now that you have it higher up. Basically I cover the gear just to reduce dust, which on vacuum equipment and TTs gets more difficult to remove.

My turntable is a bugger to dust, even with one of those synthetic feather dusters. I have to swing the arm back and forth to keep the stylus well away from any 'action'.

I'll check the heat output from the various boxes to see which can safety be covered as I keep the kit on permanently. I put the plastic cover on the Technics when not in use This is another benefit of having Mana Soundbases. All kit is 5 Soundbases further away from the floor now, then the 4 shelf racks We have carpets and 5 dogs ..... That fleck of white something is a mystery though. Very light, probably plastic
