I have just set a mate up with his first ever music system [at 60 years old] it consists of Sansui Au101 - Akai CD27 and Teac speakers he now wants a turntable, that will match it sonically and budget wise does anyone have anything they would like to sell to me for him please? p.s. it sounds better than I was expecting. The cost to him thus far has been £41:00 did I do well for him?

Very good. You say reasonable price and we can all see the bar is fairly low in that respect, but what sort of price are you thinking of as a maximum? 'Reasonable' is a rather relative concept.

I have very fond memories of those little Sansui amps and the bigger 505 too. Lovely build quality.

I have told him a turntable will cost more than the other items due to it's 'vintage status' and he will go to £60:00 no trouble, or a bit more if I am strongly recommending the item. My short list would be
Pioneer PL115D PL15D PL12D PL112D 120 Garrard SP25 Sansui SR222 Toshiba SR325
that sort of thing.

If you look in places other than Ebay, you might find a Lenco 75 for that sort of budget. It has more potential than all of your suggestions, I would venture.

Damn - I got quite excited by the title of the thread. I don't suppose your friend would like to add a 0 to the price he'll pay? Technics direct drive, AT-1010 arm, mc and mm carts. Lovely.

Errr....yes, rather more potential than one of those. You can modify a GL75 / L75 to make an astonishingly good turntable that will justify being coupled with extremely expensive amps and speakers. As standard, it's no slouch either.

When the PL12D was introduced, it seemed a step up from the Garrard SP25, and most of it's direct competitors.
These days it's nothing special.
The Lenco GL75 has great potential, but I'm not to keen on it in standard form.
My advice, keep an eye on Ebay, choose nearest first and check daily.
Turntables and the average courier are not a good combination, collection is vastly preferable.

Got a seller to deliver this to my door for £35:00 all in. I've bought a new stylus for it and am cleaning it up now. It is a Toshiba SR325 with an AT110 cartridge
