I think the front end has a lot to do with this. In the past when using windows I found Spotify to sound quite poor. Now not much difference with my files with the pi. So I suspect the server plays an important role here Yes, I'm thinking exactly this with my current setup..

I can bring the pi down if you can get it to work with your DAC

Well, it's official. The Raspberry Pi/Allo DigiOne/Caiman SEG/MyVolumio has become my primary source. I am getting so much pleasure from music via Spotify Premium that I simply don't want to play CDs or LPs at the moment. The sound quality is on another level.
Last night I was playing a variety of songs including Ride Across The River by Dire Straits. It sounded utterly compelling and incredibly vivid. I have Brothers in Arms on SACD for comparison but I heard much more in the Spotify stream than I've ever heard on that disc. Even if it's not the best SACD out there, it says a lot about the quality of playback I'm currently achieving.
I've learned through this process that clock quality, jitter reduction and overall preservation of the digital data, represented by an analogue waveform, are paramount to replay quality. Behind that comes power supply quality as it determines to a large extend noise in the signal. It's much, much more important than the actual format resolution. I've also learned that Ogg sounds far better than mp3 at the same data rate. 320k Ogg sounds so close to 16/44 FLAC as to be almost negligible in differences.
My system sounds like a Naim system in the manner of its clout and dynamics, only much nicer and more listenable. Attack without the hard edges and with far great spacial depth, if you like.

Yeah I thought it was amusing you had put the Naim reference in there. I would argue your system sounds nothing like a Naim system because it is listenable for more than 5 minutes.

Heh, heh, I was only comparing with Naim's clout and attack. Certainly it is leaps ahead in dimension, fine detail and musicality.

In order to eliminate the last switched mode power supplies from my music room, and therefore injected and radiated noise, I have ordered a twin 12V DC linear power supply from China to feed my 4G router and NAS drive. It should arrive sometime later in September.

It seems incredibly good value. I see it has two outs: does it power two items?
Also how is voltage set. is it ordered at a set voltage or is it adjustable? Also would both need to be same voltage? Sorry if it’s in the listing. I just found it a bit confusing,

It has two outputs, and two cables, which is what I wanted. You order it set to the voltage you want, in my case 12V as both my router and NAS run on that. There is an internal preset but I don't know what the range of adjustment would be. In any case, both devices would need to run on the same voltage.
Yes, I checked a great many power supplies on eBay before ordering this one.

I looked at that one (or at least one that was very similar) when I was researching a power supply for my SMSL M8. It was such a good buy that I really regretted not having anything to use the second outlet for.

I've been looking for an interconnect to do full justice to the superb sound I'm getting from the superclocked SEG. Since I've had great success with the Black Cat Silverstar 75 S/PDIF cable, I thought I'd look to see what bargains might be had, despite their rarity and lack of current availability (Black Cat have just moved from Japan to the USA). I found a Black Cat Neo Morpheus 1m pair going cheap on eBay so I've snaffled them. Like the Silverstar, they're nothing to look at but I have some faith in Chris Sommovigo's reputation and writings so I remain hopeful. My current Yannis ConnectLitz are doing a fine job so this is another experiment with little downside as I'm sure I could get back what I've paid.

In the process of evaluating the above cables I tried all the SEG modes again, bearing in mind that the superclock mod should have well and truly settled down by now. I'm back on Mode 3 (4 LED flashes) as sounding the best. The timing is incredibly tight, which together with the Neo Morpheus cables makes considerable impact on drum beats.
What is now emerging is the ultra deep bass extension. It's better controlled but more extended. My system goes low anyway and with these cables there are moments of surprise when air movements, rumble or even recording errors emerge quite clearly.
