"The improvements we hear after periods of doing nothing to the system await scientific logic We can only guess what may be going on"
That's down to the soft organic bit between your ears - in my reckoning. Brains are plastic, they learn, adapt and degrade.

My advice would be, "Don't hold your breath, Mike".

It can't suddenly, or over time, change itself. It's not a learning machine. It doesn't evolve to please you. I suppose the power supply from the grid could improve a small amount, but that's likely to wander back and forth - they keep to certain parameter of cycles, noise (spikes) and voltage. You might listen at 3am to get a 'quiet' surrounding and power supply🙂 Otherwise, likely that your appreciation of it, or appetite for it, changes.

Can hear it Usually more detail, sometimes more bass, more separation Settling, burning in ?

Possibly a combination of burn-in and grounding box gradual effectiveness.

It was interesting coming back to my system after a 2-week holiday, I had missed music but we had filled our time with other things. I wanted to approach the system after time away to reset my expectations and listen afresh. I fired it up and let the clocks warm up then had a session after about three hours.
Fascinating - it was like listening to a whole new system. I half expected to hear faults I had just become used to, but something different happened. I heard astonishing precision in focus and placement of performers. I heard a bigger soundstage with very extended note decay and the feeling of being in a cavernous space. This came with potent bass I had nearly forgotten from listening to poor hotel and car music. Most of all, the natural dynamics of performances and their sheer vividness had me really absorbing it all. It was so enjoyable that I was late getting back and into bed!
What a lovely surprise and a great feeling of satisfaction. If you ever feel jaded about your system or music, try some time away, reset and listen afresh.

l have has a similar experience,as l only listen to my set up on the weekends.
When l had a recent break of 3 months, it was mind blowing to return to my set up.

Nice that your brain reset🙂 The ear to brain chain is organic and no repeatable machine. It gets tired and used (bored although we don't feel it) to the same sounds over and over. Rest resets or modifies our perception. It evolved to be reliable enough for our survival, and to thrive, in a varied acoustic environment. This paper scratches the surface on the subject. www.akutek.info/Papers/DG_Audibility_Direct_Sound.pdfI'm getting into room affects and far field lower frequencies / nearer field higher frequencies. Finding the sweet spot, working with what I have.

I had a small irritation with a slight brightness that had crept back into the sound. I'm very attuned to my system and know when something is off. It's nearly always my doing, so I backtracked to what I last did: I had found the 2nd clock cable touching the USB cable from streamer to DDC and placed a Mad Scientist discus between the two cables. Tonight I removed the discus and re-dressed the cables so that they don't touch.
Instant improvement to the sound, which remains as potent as ever but without the slight sting I had inadvertently introduced.

Crazy and great info Now we all go looking for cables touching things

An interesting discovery. After having gone to MikeMusic to help with his streaming setup under adverse conditions of a mobile signal that is poor and contrary (we ended up with his oldest ZTE router working the best), I asked if I could try his TP-Link MR600 as it claims 4G+ and I wanted to see whether it performed better (or at all) in my setup where I'm using an older TP-Link MR6400 4G router. The 4G+ standard is less well known as the talk of the town for a while has been 5G. 4G+ effectively combines two data channels and uses MIMO aerial technology to achieve something approaching double the speed of standard 4G, but only if your local mast supports it. I'm already using 4G+ for the main house router on Three, so I was hopeful that EE from the same mast would support 4G+ too. Remember, my music room router is dedicated to music streaming only. Well, it turns out that it does indeed connect to 4G+. The MR600 is visually the same as the MR6400 except for the rear SIM slot which is now a Micro rather than Mini. I found a firmware update so performed that first, then configured it with my normal wi-fi parameters. I had performed a couple of speed tests before switching out the old MR6400 and achieved 30Mbps average. After some work to orient the router and aerials to better align with the mast, The MR600 gives me 65Mbps - more than double! Playing music to check that all is well and there are no glitches, everything works fine but I swear that Qobuz search and starting track play is snappier. So what turned out to be wretched router performance at Mike's has worked out rather well at mine. We'll do a deal as I don't think he wants it back.

Hi Martin, I tend to agree with you that 4g+ is the current sweet-spot for mobile internet. Currently, decent 5g is too expensive unless you can use a service based on three with a cheap 2nd hard 5g router from three. I make use of a mobile router since I can use it at home and simply move it to the camper when I am away. I have a cheap 2nd hand Huawei B535-232 router... Whilst it is a dull/simplistic router, the DC input is 12V rather than something close to 12V meaning it can be easily powered in the van without conversion losses. At home I tend to also get around 70Mbps which was an improvement from the 40 or so with the more simplistic single channel 4g router I had previously. Ideally in a camper you need an external aerial since it is a metal box. However, 4g+ and cheap routers have a problem in this area. While the internal aerials is 4 way 2+2 Mimo and suitable 4 way aerials cab found easily, only 2 of the 4 channels make it to the external aerial sockets on the back. There is a company which will modify such routers to allow an appropriate 4 way aerial to be connected. Alternatively, you can buy industrial routers (at greater cost) which have enough sockets. The playlist below has a lot of info in this area, although some of the earlier videos are now basic and dated. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHOEQx7dQbeUmrE2GUZ7ZbDSHqK28DxwSI tend to use the following SIM only deals from network resellers SMARTY £16 per month unlimited everything uses the three network Lebara £25 per month unlimited everything uses the Vodaphone network

Hi Sean
Not only is 4G+ very much the sweet spot, there is no 5G in Basingstoke as yet so it's the best option anyway! Saying that, I have a superb 5G deal on my EE phone contract and I like EE for the reliability of their service. 5G when I'm at work is mega fast.
Yes, I know about the company that does router external aerial conversions but I don't need it - although Mike might be interested. I'm going to give Mike my previous Huawei B535 as it has very good internal aerials which always beat the rabbit ears in my tests - again because only two of them have external sockets.
Be careful with Lebara - a colleague at work had his phone stolen and, because Lebara's security checks are non-existent, the thieves were able to gain control of the number and access his personal data.
