I'm currently using a hybrid integrated - tube pre with 120W solid state power, and for some time now I have avoided using tube power amps with my Tannoys.
I'm not in a hurry to change amps but I am wondering if there are tube power amps that can give Tannoys the bass grip and power they require to work at their best? What would you be looking for spec-wise in such an amp to take some of the guess work out of buying?
I would be very interested to hear some thoughts on this.

As a Tannoy hater, I prefer (if I must) to listen to Tannoy DC (dual concentric) speakers with solid state. Those big bass/mid drivers seem to need the grip and control that loadsa current and a high damping factor provide. If valves are a must try, think big.

I agree - you're looking at a push/pull power amp with EL34 or 6550 valves, or even KT88/KT120 level. Big, ballsy and with lots of grip. Don't even consider single-ended, I doubt it would do the job.
I'd go with solid state, too.

My first thought was for EAR 509 monos. They used to sell for about 1200 quid, but since the new price has gone skyward, so it seems have the secondhand prices asked.

That would be a great choice - closest valve amp to solid state I have ever heard.
Which begs the question...

Don't even consider single-ended, I doubt it would do the job. I ran my AN Oto SE with a pair of Tannoy Cheviots and the combination worked superbly... just saying

Let's just say that single ended valves are not all the same.
Some triodes are more "meaty" in single ended working than others, like my 833a transmitter triodes.
Must get them back in working order this winter.
Mind you, the GK-71 triodes I'm currently using are no lightweight, and it would be interesting to try them with classic Tannoys.

Thanks chaps - it's an itch I may have to scratch at some point but I'll do some more playing around with tube pre-amps first...

You want a decent damping factor to control a big cone. Valves do not excel in that dept. Typical being less that 25. A big power amp can be over 200. IME, Silicon amps struggle with the same tonal sense of magic valves have (further up the freq range). You could bi-amp, active, silicon amp on bass, line level X/O vol control etc and valve SET amp on the compression driver horn tweeter. These do not need a high damping factor. Prob a few bridges too far for most but the results are good

Not all silicon amps are born the same!

I thought only people on AOS used Tannoys?

On AOS you can't get away from the buggers - they seem commendably rare on TAS.

I used to get sick to the back teeth of hearing about them.
