Just swapped out my £20 763s for a pair of 752s. Hmmm....bit so so just now. Don't seem as clear on vocals. Reckon I can get a bit more out of them and I shall report back.

Hi Chris, 752's are great speakers. I've had experience of both versions. The originals which you have and the revised 752 Freedoms. I found the originals good but very bright and warm sounding due to the metal dome tweeter. The mid / bass Aerogel driver is the star of the show on both versions. In fact you should find vocals very good. The revised Freedom is the better balanced of the two in my experience and I still have mine which sound fab. Looks like Mission addressed the brightness of the original 752 by replacing the metal dome with a silk dome tweeter which sits under the mid / bass driver as opposed to above it. Nice speakers which still have a lot of fans and are a bargain buy on the used market.

Thanks for that. Saw them cheap and couldn't resist them. Going to faff about with them a bit - biwire them, try some different cables etc etc. Don't think it'll be too tricky to get them singing!

I've got them hooked up to my Acoustic Research A07 - dual mono 95wpc - so giving them plenty welly. I've got 5 amps kicking about just now so will see what partners up nicely.

Well, just had a wee faffy abooty - changed out my super duper speaker cable to Supra 4.0 with a couple of wee silver jumper bars in and that's made a BIG difference. Neil Diamond singing Solitary Man sounds pretty good and Johnny Cash is nice and deep and well presented. Quite pleased.

So maybe the super-duper cable is not so super?

So maybe the super-duper cable is not so super? Easy Tiger! I will go back to it and try it again! Just these Missions seem to like the Supra.

Main issues with 752's - slightly too big an enclosure (as large as they could possible get away with I was told by a later Mission designer), so no air/enclosure damping, together with a heavy floppy aerogel cone allowed to flop. The once fizzy tweeter may have mellowed by now, but like many Missions, the top wasn't good at the time and had a kind of 'waspy-sizzle' quality to it. VERY room and system fussy I remember.
I'd certainly experiment with distance from the back wall, maybe try plugging some or all of the port-holes and PLEASE don't boom them up in corners. One speaker where a then current Cyrus 2/PSX or Audiolab 8000S were good bets.

Interesting that as the 752 was regarded as one of Missions best speakers! No choice but to put them in corners either. I realise they're never going to be PMCs or Ushers but they sound pretty decent - good with tv as well.

Don't worry Chris, as a reformed hifi salesman, Dave has heard a lot of stuff and he does have a way of unintentionally pissing on people's cornflakes, but that doesn't make what you hear any less valid. Enjoy your new speakers.

No bother at all - I enjoy dsjrs comments and find them interesting. He really knows his stuff. It's when folk who know fuck all try and tell you your stuffs crap that gets me laughing! No point coming on forums if you don't want to hear opinions.

One speaker where a then current Cyrus 2/PSX or Audiolab 8000S were good bets. I believe having owned a pair for 22 years I am in a better place to comment. To me largish cabinet is a good thing and isn't Richard Dunn keen on no enclosure damping? Don't think these narrow cabinets would suit doc mods however. The Aerogel mid range you appear to piss on is a gem and means one should get excellent reproduction of vocals. Run in, the tweeter is not intrusive except on very bright recordings (some bad vinyl cuts). They are easy to drive but improve with a powerful amplifier (real world not specs). With a suitable amp and cabling these should give satisfying long term listening. I found NVA speaker cables (LS3) work well with them but they are not too fussy. Good all rounders but some people might crave something more bright and forward (not my preference). Position about 18 inches from walls and slightly toed in contrary to Mission recommendations. If you want more bass maybe try closer to wall or move away if too much. Obviously whether your room is carpeted or wood floors will make a difference to apparent brightness/dullness.

Like you Paul, Having owned the 752's in both incarnations I can whole heatedly say they are superb speakers as can be found by many other audiophiles on the net. As you say Paul, the Aerogel driver is regarded as a gem and in my opinion is - beautiful in the mids / vocals etc. whilst not the deepest bass (as would be expected from 6.5 inch driver) the bass is tight and punchy. Let's put it this way. I fell in love with my 752 Freedoms the moment I bought them on a punt. Decided a bit later to try the originals which I also liked but missed the less bright presentation and overall better balance of the Freedoms which suited my taste.
Then, I got the dreaded sometimes unnecessary hifi itch and tried a brand new pair of B&W CM7's at about £1100 at the time. Guess what, no matter how I tried to live with them I hankered and yearned for my beloved 752 Freedoms which just move me in a way the CM7's didnt. They were sold within a month - totally mint for £800 not including eBays 10% sellers fee. Did I care about that - no !! I was on the search faster than a fast thing for another pair of Freedoms and bagged a mint pair, Black Ash for £150 - very happy days. No matter how much I upgrade my system they just deliver the music beautifully, better and better with each upgrade. They are not afraid of big company. Imaging to die for, texture, timbre and realism, importantly, very musical and non fatiguing too. They are an audiophile bargain on the used market in my opinion. I've read numerous times that you have to spend some good money to genuinely 'upgrade' from these and I'd have to agree. I use mine with a mint Technics 1210 MK5g, heavily modded - Mike New Bearing, Mike New baring base plate, Mike New ETP Platter, Micro Seiki MA 202 tonearm, Ortofon Quintet Black MC Cartridge, Ebony Armboard, Custom Cables DC3 External Power Supply (7kgs), Yannis Tome Litz 423.5 pure silver tonearm cable etc etc Every upgrade they reveal what has been brought to the table Sansui AU 919 Integrated Amp ...... Nah! regarded as a genuine classic and they are.

I had a pair of 731s a wee while back and they were only awrite. I knew of the freedom range and always hankered after a set of 751 freedoms as I was in a small room at the time. The 752 freedoms looked ideal as well for these days so when I saw the 752s I was having them. I'm not great at describing the details of what I'm hearing but I have heard stuff that's great and not great. These 752s came in at the princely sum of £35 and they sound excellent so,to me,a total bargain. They won't be going anywhere soon.
