For some time my elderly Motorola Atrix 4 has been a cause for frustration with getting quite laggy and apps not fully working due to the 2.3 system it uses. EBay was the most recent one to suffer and yonks ago Tapatalk was lost with an upgrade. Just too much hassle.
Earlier in the year I noticed on Amazon some Chinese phones getting quite good reports. Had a look at some and put one in my basket, just to remember the make. Recently, when the aggro was getting the better of me, I had another look and thought I'd try a Cubot Note S. Basically for the 5.5" screen, 2G RAM and 16G ROM and a 4150 mAh size battery. It also had 2 sim capability, which wasn't really of interest. Cost, £65.
It's not often I use Amazon so I had a look on EBay and found a number of sellers had it. Typical price was the same £65 or make an offer. Decided to go for it and made an offer of £60, which was accepted. It came, and I charged it up overnight.
I use my mobile for the internet, e-mails and watching vids. First thing I did was to try it with my trusty Aiwa HP- V151 earphones that I'ved used for years with various personal media players. Couldn't help but notice some loss low down, although the rest of the frequency range did sound more clear and detailed. Still a bit disappointed, but thought it might improve with time.
Not wanting to wait, I tried a pair Sony noise-canceling ones that have always sounded a bit too full in the bass and not having the detail of the Aiwa's. Connected to the Cubot though, they sounded fine. The overall sound was balanced and detailed. After using them for a few days I went back to my old Motorola/Aiwa and was a tad surprised at how somewhat uncouth they sounded and lacking detail and dynamics in comparison. Better sound than.
Using Android 5.1, apps and the internet are a breeze after a laggy 2.3. The screen is so much more responsive too. A real pleasure after the Motorola. And it's so bright!
And, and it's got a radio! The Motorola didn't and I did miss not having it. Not a classical listener but do enjoy listening to Classic FM. Stayed up till 3 last Saturday doing so. And just discovered the BBC radio i-player. Downloaded a Vincent Price play from 4Extra. Absolute hoot! Love it! Love it!
For £60 I can't fault it. Looking on the internet it does get good reviews. Appears to have been destined for the African market. Some say the camera isn't that good but I've yet to try it. It even supports 128G SD cards,
If you're looking for a cheap mobile, you could do a lot worse.
P.S.
You can record the radio too!
