To be honest I never been the greatest Genesis fan I find with Genesis I can never engage in every track on the album but can enjoy some of the music and so it is with this album. I seem to like them more when they rock out a bit (Dance on a Volcano) but some of there music just does not grab me. I am going to give it a 7 but it could of been a 6

Just relax into the quieter 'stories' told. Ripples, TOTL and so on. They're quite beautiful and the title track is a heart-rending 'tail' of the way humanity deals with anything that doesn't fit the pidgeon-hole.. This vein continued later with tracks like 'Many Too Many,' which I understand better now, rather too well, forty years on.

Ahh, I danced with my early girlfriend to that in The Shakespeare Head in Carnaby Street... I still have the 7" single.

Not my favourite Genesis album, I prefer their earlier work from the Nursery Crime to 'Lamb' era, but a solid 7 all the same.

Churlish of me, I know, but some of the songs on this album go on a bit. I know, I know, I know it’s Genesis – and lots of their songs are unconventional and not your standard 3mins 40secs tracks, but a few songs on here do start to drag. I’m a very casual Genesis fan – and I think it’s safe to say I prefer them more in ‘pop’ mode, but I did enjoy listening to this – just not sure I’d revisit that much, unlike, say, ‘Invisible Touch’ or their self-titled album. I gave it a solid 6.

The issue RB has always had is with 'Duke' & 'And Then There Were Three' fuzzies, The contents of each always tell RB that 'Duke' was the earlier recording but obviously is not, it always comes across that way tho loike.

I regards Wind and Wuthering as the brother of Trick of the tail and Seconds Out as the live version Lamb is also great

For Dance on a Volcano alone, it gets 10/10 from me. From the very first time I heard it, this song made me want a hi-fi system more than most other music. It needs to hit you physically for awesome effect. I'm glad to say that it's stood the test of time and Collins' drumming remains superb. Both the SACD and remastered vinyl sound good.

I can remember sitting on my bed staring at the gatefold not understanding why I couldn't find Peter Gabriel's name . I wasn't too familiar with the line ups of the band but I did know Gabriel and had played SEBTP to death , "Trick" was my second Genesis album. I was gutted to find out that he'd left , bit late I know but it really affected my initial listenings of Trick , I think I was sulking . Anyway its a great album I like it better than Lamb , it comes forth behind SEBTP , Nursey Chryme and Foxtrot, still its a 10

Both painted by Mr Hackett's other half I believe She did loads of artwork for Steve Hackett, but no Genesis. "Trick" and "Wind" were done by Hipgnosis.

For me it's a good album with some great songs and some excellent instrumental workouts, but PG is sorely missed. It is the start of Genesis becoming twee and a bit wet - something you could never say about Foxtrot, SEBTP or Lamb. Collins's drumming is outstanding and his vocals generally ok apart from "Robbery" which is awful - Dick Van Dyke-esque!!

lol. Might suprise you all that i find these two albums the absolute best period for Gen'arse-sis imho. Those live performances from 1975 up to Hackett leaving were superb. Gabriel was da man but come on Phil was also superb at what he did back then.
If anyone aint had the Chance Steve Hackett first solo fuzzy whilst still in Gen'arse-sis: 'Voyage Of The Acolyte' is a must. Mike Rutherford & Phil Collins play on this. Stand out track & a fine job from Phil on Bottle tops is the track "Shadow of the Hierophant".. Mike Oldfields sister alser sings on this track.. Pure Gen'arse-sis sound..

I have Voyage on vinyl. Also worth finding are the early Brand X albums featuring Collins.

Voyage of the Acolyte is a very old era Genesis like album , another with Phil singing and an album I like better than "Voyage" is Anthony Philips' The Geese and the Ghost.

I have three copies of 'Voyage,' One on vinyl and two on CD. the vinyl has bass distortion and both it and the first CD have a slight hardness of tone probably done to favour vinyl I reckon. the remastered CD is totally better imo, clearer, and with far cleaner bass and instrumental timbres. Lovely album and I heard this the first time in a demo one afternoon, along with Olias of Sunhillow which I also love..
