Bye the way, Karns might not say it, but he finds the Wall laughable as well.

Side 2 of that Floyd soundtrack for film La Valee, I would not consider prog either . But - so very much unlike The Wall - those 4 tracks are near-perfect.
You would be well-advised to seek out a reissue of this...and bin the Wall.

Bye the way, Karns might not say it, but he finds the Wall laughable as well. Why is that? Ive already said it was a Masterpiece of an Album.. £65 for a Japanese 1st press in Minto condition is a good price.

I actually bought a japanese 1st of it for £25 last year just because the Obi Strip was missing, any of the Japanese releases from back then are fine. This is a country that knows how to make records. Ill have a look around
I don't like re-issues from Digital means cos no matter how good people claim they are i can hear it within seconds of playing..
I never liked any of the UK issues of it.
Just as a side note, most Japanese issues of it did not have the Prism design label you are so used to seeing associated with this album..

Early vinyl issues of DSOTM sound fine. Don't bother with the Mo-Fi early version. The first issue CDs on Toshiba are poor. The best sounding issue of all is the EMI SACD. The Alan Parsons alternative mix for DVD-A offers a different sound (you have to download it and burn a DVD-A yourself).

thanks for the pointers, ive got a new 180g but cant help thinking im missing something. There are still some sealed copies of the 30th Anniversary vinyl around. Essentially an all analogue version of the SACD Martin mentions. I just prefer it to the SACD and found it compares well to my A3/B3 pressing. I also think the new 2016 Wall is up with the best and close to UK original without surface noise issues. It doesn't sound at all digital which isn't the case with all of the new remasters. The 2016 reissues should satisfy most people and think some titles would even make Rare bird happy (apart from the labels). Agree the 2016 DSOTM is missing something in terms of dymamics though it is still better than the 2011.

1 thing i have noticed with the wall jap pressing is although it seem to have more detail,it does sound a little drier than the uk pressing, turning the treble up 1 cures this although i normally use source direct on the amp. kate bush's kick inside jap press is the same.is this a running theme with jap pressing i wonder?

I am not a huge fan of 'original' Japan pressings. Main advantage is pressing quality otherwise many sound a bit thin with tipped up treble. Most often they are cut from tape copies and not the master. I have a couple but only because I couldn't find a clean UK or US pressing. The Universal Japan reissue series from 2007 are generally good though mostly from digital (DSD). One of the Neil Young archive live albums (Sugar Mountain) was pressed in Japan and that is very good (but cost a lot in 2009).
