Saturday's win for Cav was fabulous. Now another today is even better Some great racing all over. Horribly bad luck for Porte and Contador The sprint finishes are only for the brave or mad www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cycling/36706699

Yes it's great the Tour is on, cycling was my past life but there are still a few old geezers there that i recognise, but they have mainly moved position from the saddle to Director Sportif. The best bit of it is I am at home to watch it all, now that is a refreshing change.

With Boulting and Millar commentating for ITV4 it is much like the good old days on Eurosport. I confess to watching it live and enjoying it a lot. I too am at home to watch it
Messy old finish today. Surprised they all stayed upright

I know, all those islands and road bollards etc. I was on the edge of my seat, very impressed there were no crashes. Shame Cave got boxed, but there you go. So off to the mountains tomorrow.....

Think Cav only has himself to blame but when you have to be a superman just to get around and also play 3D chess to work out where to be I can let him off a bit

He doesn't seem to have the big power team other sprinters seem to have. In the days of Mario Cipollini, they would have the whole team working as a train to shelter the sprinter most of the stage, pull him through the peloton, then in the last few km there would be a couple of exceptional lead out men. Cav seems to almost be a man on his own having to duck and dive into position.

I see the new Cav team as more like guerilla warfare, hunting in small groups The days of huge team lineouts may be gone as the sport evolves. Sky are much less like the war machine they used to be, grinding everyone into dust and we are all the better for it. No idea what Movestar were doing today apart from doing their own guys in Great win for Greg Van Avermaet. Will the yellow jersey produce a superman from within ?

I've watched the last 20 minutes of so 3 times now.
Lots going on
For someone who thought Steven Roche (English speaker, Irish) was the closest us Brits would ever get to success it still comes as a shock to see Brits winning so many stages, holding the Yellow, Green and White jersey at the moment. British success in sport has to go a very long way to beat what happens in cycling
The sheer spectacle yesterday and the risks taken by Froome stun me. Still cannot believe what I saw

watch the last downhill again Mike and think of a preying mantis sat backwards on a bike looked awkward but it worked. The spectators where too close as usual near the summit and Froome was fined for punching/elbowing a spectator that invaded his space: metro.co.uk/2016/07/09/chris-froome-appears-to-punch-fan-during-stage-eight-of-the-tour-de-france-5996972/Crowd control is always poor near the summits on the TDF, put some barriers up and leave some room for the cyclists. A great stage win on Saturday and Cav is doing well with stage wins and points which is great to watch.

Frome was just sensational.

Frome was just sensational. I was terrified he was going to crash, I have positioned myself like that on a bike many times and it makes you very unstable, let alone pedalling at such a high cadence

I honestly thought Froome had lost all his senses especially as he has a reputation for hitting the ground often I wonder if the idiot running alongside angered him to the point of breaking away and taking it out on the other riders Good punch

Yesterday another classic, certainly at the end Not certain why Bert abandoned
The rain and hailstorm at the end could have been signalling the end of the world - yet they still cycled through it.
From 35'c down to 10 and torrential rain and hailstones.

This year's Tour is turning into a classic, some really interesting stages so far. It looks like Sky have by far the strongest team and so long as Froome stays healthy he is the strong favourite. The TV coverage is also good, commentary better than last year and no sign of that idiot Phill Liggett.

The commentary team on ITV4 is the best they have ever had. I was used to Liggett and Sherwin for many years then discovered Eurosport. They turned off the free satellite then messed up my monthly subs for streaming and you can't talk to them so I gave up
Whoever is on Eurosport now will have difficulty keeping up with the quality of presentation on ITV4
Having Boardman there reminded me last night he was the one that started this massive success in GB cycling
