I've been using an old QED amplifier for 2 channel duties with my TV which has done a sterling job, but it's generating some very high temperatures now and I certainly don't want it going up in flames.
It doesn't owe me anything and won't be spending money servicing it, so would like to think about a replacement. I was thinking about one of those cheap Chinese T-amps but am wondering what kind of power output would be suitable, as I believe the power ratings on these amps are misleading. They will be driving a small pair of Denon speakers.
My TV has digital out so an amp with built in DAC is a possibility. I would like to avoid adding another remote control to the collection - we control the sound via the TV remote as the QED is connected via headphone output on TV.
Needs to be cheap as poss really. Any suggestions on something suitable?

The older Sony amps are good with TV. Just find a cheap one.

I use a modified look a like TQ Atom. Small and drives the Q Acoustics well.

Why not try another QED? They can go silly cheap and they are well made. Failing that, a Creek 4040 isn't too large, obtrusive or expensive and they sound great to my ears.

That's a DAC included version of the T-Amp I'm running on my PC, Jules. It's good, but beware the horrible limiting power delivery of T-Amps when they are pushed too far. Are the speakers efficient?

No official sensitivity figures but read 88db somewhere... There is a very similar Topping amp which is even cheaper but sacrifices analogue in and remote - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191805953892

Hmm, it all depends on how loud you want it to go. For me, 88dB speakers are going to invite T-Amps into the unpleasant zone on peaks.

My only T amp was a Muse TA2021 and it was a horror in every way: Limp, weak, scratchy and with no sense of tinimg or rhythm. It also failed to produce reasonable volume levels with any speaker I tried. It put me right off trying any others. Maybe with a 99db speaker they will be different.

I've got a couple of spare Topping TP-60's. 50wpc.
They are surplus to requirements. I used them to drive 15" bass horns. Also a 22wpc one.

The 50Wpc amps would be more up my street!

Is this to run in the same room as the main system, Jules? If so, have you thought about getting a dac and running the tv into that and then into your main amp?
