Unswitched sockets sound better than switched. I 'switched' to a Missing Link a few years ago from a standard MK. Yes, nice little difference, worth the £30 odd Mentioned this to Tony who is delving into my system currently and he brought along his own socket. Useful that I have 2 right next to each other so listened. Missing Link first - normal for me, good sound Coherent next Surely not possible ? Everything is better, treble, midrange, bass, clarity This is a major system upgrade. Cost ? Around £100 from your favourite TAS member called Fluxed in Time Value for money ? Yes. Take my word for it and get one quick This is true Mike. Have you considered the next, even more fruitful step? Separate spare with separate trip box just for the socket in question. The one thing I have learned about HiFI forums is to never trust someone else's opinion or hearty recommendation. Virtually every time I have "open mindedly" explored the others opinion and spent my cash it just hasn't done it for me. Does Fluxed in Time offer a Russ Andrews type of service 30 days trial and money back? Not that I will be exploring that

Well there I was in my temporary situation with kit not where it should be.
Time to rationalise and tidy up, cable lengths allowing. All into the P10 is the best.
I then realised the Belles Pre Amp was plugged directly into the very good Missing Link socket. I'll test it in the Coherent first then check out the P10.
First test fine in the Missing Link 2nd test moved to the Coherent. I laughed. Louder (!?), more dynamic range I guess, more detail, more bass. Bonkers. Quantify the step up in sound quality to money - about £1000 I'd say
Moved into the P10, which has the other Coherent socket. Another step up, more of the same, not quite so much.

For me £100 squid is a no brainer so I will likely get one!

Cannot guarantee it will do for you what it did for me, but I bet it does good

No extra gizmo's or quantum rearranging, just a very well constructed unit with exceptionally good surface contact area plus a solid grip of the plug. Three times industry standard of plating of Coherrent proprietory metaurgical material finished off with a cryogenic 72 hour treatment Is that not the new socket that MS HD Power are doing (I see you sell them)? This one in fact: www.mshdpower.com/products_p.html?category=ep&class=WallSocket&oem=2&xml=9296rhk&model=MS-9296RHK fits your description exactly (thick rhodium plated, high tension contacts, 72 hour cryogenic etc) £90.00. The silver plated version is £50.00 (doesn't have the cryogenic treatment as far as I can see).

Hello Yawan,
Air audio (Mike) that distribute MK supply ourselves with a bare O.E. unit and plugs. Air Audio has only just starting offering Cyro treatment with there products here in the UK I believe Frozen Solid perform the operation. We have our own cryogenic tank and plating facilities here in the UK. All our cables for the last 8 years have been cyro treated. The material which is plated on units does not use Rhodium in any way, it is the same composition as our 6D material and is copper/gold variant. We also have a six micron plating surface composition, but before plating occurs each of the contact areas (including the earth bar) is micro polished and dipped for better plating adhesion.
We feel it gives a more smoother, open and a more detailed sound than others available. However other plated mains sockets are available from a number of brands.

I learned the hard way that rhodium plating wrecks sound quality. The trouble is it gives an edge to the sound, fooling you into believing there is more detail. It's rather like turning the sharpness up too high on a TV. There isn't any more detail, but your brain thinks there is on first look.
I got rid of all my rhodium Furutech mains plugs in favour of gold plated ones.

Thanks conty for clearing that up; so not the MS HD one then - a plated and treated MK one. As you say, there are a lot of plated sockets available now, even cryogenically treated ones.
