June 2016 - Everlast - White Trash Beautiful (2004)(from Paul @pjdowns )
An album I recommended to MikeMusic when we had our recent music session. I was introduced to Everlast in the late 2000s by a friend who knew I had an eclectic taste in music and thought I might like it and how right he was. It's a peculiar one, it's effectively a fusion of Acoustic Rock guitar and Rap but for whatever reason it really really works. It helps that the production and recording of the album are good but the tunes are equally catchy, very keen to see people's opinion en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Trash_Beautiful#

I tried hard, but this is just not my kind of music and I don't like his voice. Sorry! 5/10.

I really think I should pass this one, the word rap makes me want to hide under the dining table.

His Wiki page also says Hip Hop, I'm too scared . . . might try it if I can find the courage, but there's only two things I like less than Lana Del Ray and that's rap and hip hop!

I gave this album a second airing today, and my observations were largely the same as last time, that is there's only so many times you can milk a groove with no discernible melody. And this happens so often on this album. Frequently it's just one sketch of a musical idea, and it never gets beyond that. There are only so any times you can repeat a three or four chord trick.
I quite liked the track "Angel", but beyond that I became bored and stopped listening.
I give it a four out of ten because of Angel, but I'm not going to waste any more of my life listening to this album ever again.

I'm guessing you're not a fan then, fair enough. I even went back and listened to his contribution on Santana's "Supernatural" album, and came to the conclusion that sometimes it's a lot easier to tread in the footsteps of giants than it is to plough your own furrow. I did give the Everlast album a couple of goes, but no, I haven't been converted.
