The really deep sea extraction seems risky to me.
Hopefully they have it under control.
Off the Shetland Islands in winter is not a place I'd like to be !
Is it all subsea ?
Why would you be paid off ?

The risky side is quite well managed Mike - there's some very highly qualified personnel out here who are all qualified in well control. It can and does still happen though - just google Elgin gas leak to see. Winter here is ACE. I love it. Wild,wild seas(26m was the biggest wave last year,amazing fresh,cool air and fantastic wind straight from the NE. 104knots was pretty high!
Yeah - instead of a production platform(google image Buzzard platform to see what I mean) then this project is all subsea and controlled from the gas plant on mainland Shetland. Amazing technology.
Most of us will be paid off as there's no further contracts(so far) after this one finishes. Have to get back to the modelling.

Yeah Mike - we are a drilling rig specialising in exploration and production. Once the wells are drilled and handed over away we go. Control is done from the gas plant on Shetlands mainland instead of a production platform at sea.
Hopefully ,another contract will turn up but I'm not too bothered if it doesn't. I'm tired of the risks,the danger and the hard work especially when I'm getting nowhere for it. Wee job filling sandwiches or stacking shelves for me next.

You've paid your dues on the rig. I could not do it.
Have the T shirt on getting nowhere. That's why I retired. Many benefits to running your own place.
There are many opportunities for a guy with a brain.
