I tend to lug about my external flashgun in order to enjoy the benefits of using diffusers etc to get a better lit picture in even small surroundings where the flashgun looks like an overkill. I also lost the big brother of the flashgun I currently own at a party. That was nearly £500 down the drain . So I have become reluctant to take my flashgun out with me if I can help it.
The inbuilt pop-up flashgun on my camera is good enough for small to medium indoor use, but the hard shadows, pronounced red-eye, and limited to non-existent options available to the pop-up flash has reduced my usage of it to the bare minimum.
But then I read about a gadget called a pop-up flash diffusers. So I decided to by a dirt cheap one to try out, before spending a bit more on getting an even better one. The one I ordered is www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261398811010?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I have been experimenting with it most of today, and I have no hesitation in saying that it has been a positive revelation. This particular buy has two limitations, which I hope to get addressed with the better one I ordered from HK. But those are just niggles that do not distract from the usefulness of the product. For the price of less than £3.00 no self respecting SLR pop-up flash user should be without one. Skin tones no longer appear sweaty. And when using slow-sync flash on my camera I get we ll lit room without dark corners in al but the widest setting on my zoom lens. The amount this thing will save me in batteries alone that my flashgun would otherwise have been going through will probably be recouped in next to no time.
You can find them cheaper on eBay if you are prepared to wait for delivery from the Far East.
Verdict: you'll appreciate it once you have tried it.
