Does anyone use silicone dampers on their tubes?
If so do they make any difference to the sound?

I tried sorbothane ones on a preamp a long time ago. At first, I couldn't tell any difference at all, until one day it became obvious. A night and day difference, in fact. This was because the one on a 12BH7 valve melted and drooled gunk everywhere. The difference was that previously the preamp worked perfectly and afterwards, not at all!!
Never tried silicon ones though.

I used them years ago in my Croft SIP preamp and they did clean up the sound a little, especially on the sensitive phono inputs (ECC88).

That's interesting - I'm going to try some on the 5 tubes in the phono stage ...

Thanks Chris, most kind, but I have a pallet load on the way from China for a couple of quid... LOL

I bought a trio of these a few years ago for my Longdog DAC: herbiesaudiolab.net/preamp.htm(1x EF86 and 2X 5687 tubes in there). Due to the internal layout of the DAC I had to 'trim' one down to size a tad, but it fits perfectly now. I put them in and while the change wasn't "night and day" they certainly had a nice impact on the sound, the whole range tightened up and sounded more coherent. They've not come out since. I'm toying with the idea of trying these out, just for a giggle: www.madscientist-audio.com/tubetoppers.html

I've got a confession to make; they're in my system but I also got my new Paul Hynes SR7 PSU for my pc at the same time, so it all went in together. It sounds fantastic (a lot better than before) but it's impossible to tell what's done what. I seriously doubt the tube dampers have influenced the sound to the degree I'm experiencing. Once I'm use to it all I'll take them out and report back
