I finally got round to watching the Yehudi Menuhin doc I mentioned previously ... www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b078lrhz/yehudi-menuhin-who-was-yehudiIf you haven't seen it yet, please do, as for me it's an absolute must. The combination of superb archive footage and interviews with close friends and family makes for compelling viewing. It's a remarkable insight into his rise to fame and his motivation to keep playing in later life. Learning violin at 4 and giving his first solo recital at 7 - to have technically mastered the violin before the age of 10 seems beyong the realms of possibility ... And then to play it with depth, understanding and maturity? If anything musical deserves to be labelled as 'genius' this would surely be it. Playing over 500 concerts to troops during WWII is a mammoth achievement in itself including playing to the survivors of Belsen, in the camp itself. There's so much to learn, enjoy!
