Gosh, the end of an era for you John. Well, they've given you a lot of pleasure and no doubt paid for themselves several times over in that respect.

Well they did not work as well in standard set up but get the bass firing towrds the wall and the bass has its speed again. So here what they look like now I think I call them Son of a Beast I let you know what they finally sound like in my system which be a few days yet

Well finally plugged into the system Took awhile to get the bass dialed in how I like it but you could hear its potential right away It has a lot of punch compared to the Hawthornes more detail and a wider sound stage These are fantastic speakers right away For me to make such a leap I have to be pretty sure where I am heading I have that same grin I had when I heard Vic new build and released I had to get this for myself Started out with Dhafer Youseff now listening to Dream Theater and just love what I am hearing They bring out detial and the attack is just awesome Now what to do with my avatar?

I think one of the advantages is having the PRV as a full range driver they cut of around 150 which means they are not trying to produce bass and no crossover getting in the way of the sound at present the bass is coming in around 220 with a 18db cut off (butterworth) from the Behringer Inuke. Everything is set flat but will play more with the bass later When it comes to sound I am fussy old bugger and have had the Hawthornes for years I did not think I ever consider changing them but SQ first

Yes as you know the last speakers were pretty fast and had amazing mid bass. This has kept that fantastic mid bass but given me that same openness and drive across the frequency range a very addictive listen

Still dialling in the bass, having 2 bass drivers gives a lot more slam

I might be changing my baffles I just be speaking to Vic having the PRV in free air takes it even further, its scary to think but I will take this to wherever it needs to go Hard to believe the sound could get better It be another week before I can hear this for myself and will update but very exciting times

I have built several open baffle speakers. The 15 inch woofers out of the old Realistic Mach 1 speakers work very well on a smallish open baffle. I have used them with both an Edgar midrange horn and ESS AMT tweeters. You can cross them over quite high up-say up to 1500 Hz as they have a nice midrange.

I taken this to more extremes It seems like the PRV drivers benefit from being free standing so had the top chopped off and bass drivers whilst still open baffle have a push pull arrangement Biggest change is mid and treble even more detail and just a very expansive sound stage It just picks up subtle micro detail and makes everything musical Sound just explodes but does not suffer any fatigue. Bass has a bit more punch. It does seem to effect the speed

John, this design is getting very close to something you and I discussed the possibility of years ago!

Yes i remember funny how things go Its a very minimal design now but has great sense of scale It all seems a bit counter intuitive. A few months ago I would of not even considered this
