I'm not sure how it happened but I now find myself with one of these. I haven't even fired it up but all looks intact, if a little shabby (Nextel isn't the most durable of things).
Bounce seems pretty even although I'm not even sure what lies under the hood. Arm is an ADC ALT1 and cart is a P77 (a fave of mine amongst MM carts).
Is the deck any good? Is it in P3 territory, Axis territory or is it even better? How about the arm? I assume it's probably more suited to MM carts but I'm guessing. What about setup? Any hints, tips or interesting tales are more than welcome.
It it probably won't be with me for long, but I felt sorry for its plight and thought I'd try to restore a bit of its former pride.

It's certainly worth a little TLC and a listen. Check the arm for bearing slack.

It has far more potential than the decks you refer to Andrew, but that arm will be holding it back very significantly. I have a friend who owns one and alternates an Ittok and a Zeta on it with a Madrigal Carnegie cartridge (....remember them?). It sounds simply wonderful.
I think Andre is the world's biggest fan of these decks.

Thanks, Guys I. That case, I think I will move the arm on and hang onto the deck for as long as I can. I will clean it up to start with and go from there.

funnily enough, there's a Systemdek/Ittok here, to confirm my earlier point.

In 1980 I fitted the arm to an AR XA. Previously I rewired the arm with some litz cable I'd made and adapted it with an ADC LMG headshell. Typical damping mods were made to the deck.
Compared to a Thorens 160 MKII and Hadcock, there was little to choose between them. After fitting the ADC however - that changed. It was a disaster - with a capitol D. There was a band of information from the upper-mid upwards missing. I checked everything. But nothing I did made any real difference. I couldn't really put the original back on either. I was beside myself. For an extra £7 I could have got a Rega R200. But, being a somewhat tight git, I chose the ADC at £40, and bitterly regretted doing so.
Never really got over the experience and have loathed the arm ever since. Kept it for years out of nostalgia, but a few years ago someone took it in part exchange for a faulty Technics SL-P1200 cd player.

Thankfully I sold the arm on as it just looked wrong on the deck. My mate blagged the P77 off me this morning, which is bittersweet as I love them and I wanted to keep it. I'm left with just the deck. I've cleaned it down because it as filthy. I'll ponder overnight but it's an awful lot of work to restore to a standard I'd be happy with, so I might just get rid. At least it got a damn good clean, and my mate got a damn good cartridge.

The only disaster arm I've ever bought was a Helius Aureus. Complete pile of shite.

I did mean to say that I re-wired the original AR arm.
It might not look very capable. The real weak point was the headshell. And the later XB77 "Fishtail" headshell lacked even the rigidity of the original headshell, limiting the potential of the deck quite a bit.
Oh, and there was quality control problems with the bearings. About 10 years ago I got the 1700 deck which was cheap and had a version of the arm. When I picked up the arm I was taken aback somewhat at how sloppy the bearings were.
