Hi all I have contributed to several audio furums both in the UK and USA. Been into music from a child and hifi for about 40+ years. Listen to classical music of most types, female vocal, jazz, blues, bit of folk. Well most music really. Been a neurotic box swapper for more years than I wish to admit but hopefully getting to a final system. I know......idiot! Said it so many times before. My current (final?) system is: Sonneteer Alabaster Naim NAC N272 Pre Amp/Streamer Harbeth P3esr REL T5i Subwoofer

Hi Alan
Welcome to TAS
We are of a similar age. I have swapped a few boxes and I too hope to be getting near to fina, but there is always that next thing that gives more music. Will it ever end ?.......

Morning Alan
Welcome to TAS
How is Worcester this fine morning?
The sonneteer andthe Harbeths have a good synergy which is well known the alabaster has a nice pace and drive which lifts the Harbeths to a level which many people would enjoy a great deal

Hi Alan, Welcome, nice system there How you finding the N272? Paul. I like it very much Paul. The pre is better than the 172 and although I haven't used it, it will play high definition files. Having tried several streamers - well I would, wouldn't I - including silly priced Weiss, and this is the best I have heard.

Worcester is bootiful this morning. Been for my constitutional with Cindy (see avatar) and having a couple of hours with Richard Strauss. Sublime! I have only had the Sonneteer about a week after selling my stupidly priced Lavardin IT-15. The Lav is a fantastic amp but to be honest I don't miss it with the Sonneteer. The Lav is more neutral but the Sonneteer is definitely more musical and involving. I spoke to Sonneteer before auditioning and the guy said he knew he was cutting his own throat but recommended the Alabaster above the Orton for the very reasons you quoted.

Hi Alan Pleased you you like the Sonneteer the Alabaster is one of those great products that many people should really audition it will surprise them. The Orton and Lavardin are cut very much from the same cloth, in a a/b situation I would suggest that the IT ref would only just nick it by a small margin and given the differential in cost, that makes the Orton another worth while addition Can I ask which dealer supplied you?

Yes I have an NDX and it is quite a remarkable piece of kit… although I have been considering changing to an N272 for my pre-amp and then maybe getting a NAP250… although for about the next 12 months I am going to stick with what I have got because I have just bought myself a new Apple iMac

Have a listen to a Chord before plunging for the 250. Similar price 2nd hand and I rate my Chord better than a 500 !
