Did anyone hear Kirill Gerstein last night playing Tchaikovsky Piano No 1? He was playing the 'original version' of the score which he so keenly champions, as opposed to the posthumous version which is standard concert hall fare. Here is an interesting discussion of the different versions - www.nybooks.com/daily/2015/03/09/real-tchaikovsky/What a wonderful performance with stellar support from BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Thomas Dausgaard. Reminded me of the late Muhammad Ali - 'float like a butterfly, sting like a bee' ... With the perfect combination of power and grace, Gerstein brought a wonderful freshness to this work that you may not have heard for a while. If this is released on vinyl I will be buying it for sure.
