It does and it's still a massive bargain at the price asked.

I always keep an eye on what that guy is selling. He is never cheap but always sells really nice examples, often of vintage Japanese super amps ...

It really shows how forum content and opinions really do count. Chris finds a forgotten (overlooked?) gem and talks about it. Next thing you know the price and aporeciation go up significantly. I didn't know the A-07 was dual mono until it was mentioned here. Now it seems to be mentioned in almost every A-07 as I see. We had a similar thing with a JVC amp on another forum too. I guess people are listening to the opinion of real-world users.

How is the A-07 working out for you Chris, now that you've had a chance to get properly aquainted with it?

Still loving it ChrisB - so much so in fact I'm off to look at an A04 today! As well as,not instead of!
I'm using it downstairs just now so run the TV through it and that's awrite - needs a bit volume but I think that's more to do with the speakers. I've also picked up a wee Sony CD player to match up to the 176EBs and, with music,it's an excellent combination. Crisp, powerful and fast is the best way to describe what I'm hearing. I'm going to swap out speaker cable for Supra 4 just for the crack but no rush for that. Through the Bluetooth/idevices it's good as well - needs a bit more wick but very, very similar sq to CD. I've been keeping an eye out for AR speakers to match up with it but again no rush.
That whole system was £120. Amp £100,CD player £5 and speakers £5. £10 for decent speaker cable and I love it - I realise there's plenty better but,for the money, this is a great setup.

All good then. Have you got any particular model of speaker in mind? You should be aware that they almost all will need refoaming by now. The AR 4 series have cloth surrounds though, so they should be OK. The range that were current when your amp was available was the BX range 22BX (two way, 8" bass driver) 33BX (two way, 10" bass driver), 44BX (three way, 10" bass driver), 55BX (three way, 12" bass driver) and 66BX (three way, 12" bass driver and beautiful real wood veneer and solid wooden edge fillets).

Back in the 80s, my local Kebab shop in York had a pair of AR22BX on wall brackets. They sounded great but back then they were pretty much dismissed as not being "proper" hifi.

I remember a small trinket shop in Granada, Spain, (beautiful old town, well worth a visit) having a pair of gorgeous Sonus Faber speakers dishing out the music. Probably the best shop speakers I've ever seen!

Probably the best shop speakers I've ever seen! I remember getting lost in Granada, trying to find the Alhambra (not the cinema ). We got there in the end and it was worth the effort.

I once went to a woodfuel stove shop that had MF monoblocks in the shop system. I can't remember what the speakers were though.

Do you think they sound grainy?

Probably. Something to do with timbre as well, I expect.

I need advice. Found on sale ($ 250) Amplifier Acoustic Research A-07 this device was positioned as the top in the line. I watched the video, the amplifier is heavily scolded:
He bought and can not believe that it sounds very bad. Says his place in the garbage can. There is a musical charisma of the amplifier Acoustic Research A-07 and what is its relevance today ? Mainly, is it worth buying this amplifier or is it money thrown away ?

I was going to suggest it was faulty but the reviewer did his research and found a review of a new one that said it sounded poor so if my money I would not take a chance

Yeah sounds like there's something up with it. I like mine and it sounds great withdifferent speakers. I've used it with AN Ks,Mission 752s and a set of horns and it's been excellent with them all. Keep your eyes open as they are rare but do turn up.

Thanks John I watched this video, I was very surprised. That's the twist! I already wanted to buy this amplifier. And what about this YouTube video is very strange, that it scolds this amplifier hard. I tried to send a letter to the author, but he is silent. Although the number of video on vintage technology on its channel can be concluded that it is deep in the subject. Probably it does not make sense to lie to him. The real owners of Acoustic Research AR-07 which I could not confirm or disprove, I did not find. Maybe Acoustic Research was not a good model although it is considered top ?
