Once upon a time I ran FoxPro multi user on a Novel server. Fox really hated the power cuts we had in Chertsey and they were frequent so I bought a few UPSs to help us out
One day Fox crashed on all PCs. No idea what had happened as everything else was still on. In a print business with kit running all over and many lights on the silence and sudden gloominess was a key but not that day.
After much head scratching I worked out it could only have been he cleaner and vacuum upstairs in the office

When I was an engineer for BT we lost count of the reports of " Bell tinkle," which meant that every time " the boss" dialled out (rotary phones in those days don't forget) the bell in his secretary's phone would, well, tinkle. Yup, the cleaner had unplugged the PSU to use her vacuum cleaner. In the City of London, there were literally thousands of Plan 105 and Plan 107 installations like that, where the boss's phone and his secretary's phone were linked and had the ability to "buzz" each other etc. utilising a mains power unit. Depending how busy we were (and how friendly the secretary was, because we got to know the decent ones) it was either a visit to the customer's premises, or a phone call to ask the secretary to look under her desk and plug it back in. Either way, it qualified as a 45 minute job for the engineer. Knowing all of those little wrinkles helped enormously later on, when I had a staff of 30 or 40 engineers, like what I used to be, trying to bullshit me on a daily basis.

I have on more than one occasion found an important dead machine had been unplugged by a cleaner. I started putting DO NOT UNPLUG Dymo tapes on the plugs. It still didn't stop some of them!

I saw a tweet today which, to paraphrase it, said: The clocks go back at the end of the month, and we gain an hour. Gaining an hour in today's world is a bit like finding a hidden bonus track on a Yoko Ono album.

At times like this I tend to refer to a six minute live recording of the time that The Mothers of Invention invited Lennon onstage for a gig at the Filmore East. Part way through someone else started 'singing'. The track is called ' A small eternity with Yoko Ono'
