Hi Mike I talk more about DSD on my blog I was hoping I would understand that when more people spoke of it Still, playing the thicko as I did at school and other places, but having Google now Direct Stream Digital Think that was what Paul McGowan was going on about in his daily email I'm postponing that for quite a while

What does clipping sound like, I run 94db speakers on a 12w valve power amp. I listen at moderate levels and don't notice clipping as an audible thing, is it more an inability to go from moderate to very loud?

Valves amps tend to limit and compress. You simply won't hear the full dynamic range of the music and things will get a little harsh when it gets busy.

I think I may well be suffering from clipping then.

Mike/John
Careful, as you have misunderstood each other: Mike asked about DSP, which is Digital Signal Processing, and refers primarily to room correction using a microphone to listen to the actual sound and make corrections for the room by presetting correction curves. John replied by talking about DSD - Direct Stream Digital, a Sony/Philips system which is the 1-bit 2.8MHz digital format used on SACDs.

I'll stick with what I have for the time being on both fronts
Paul McGowan was talking about various items in what I'd call leading edge. I'll hang around with what I have for a while yet
