Guys, is there anyone experienced with NAD's M12 preamplifier/dac and M22 amplifier?
Given the fact NAD made an amplifier based on nCore technology, put it in a nice package and is charging $3k for it is quite remarkable. It basically means the cost of DIY nCore amp would end up at the pretty much the same price range. I still cannot believe this has been done. I understand there could be many better amplifiers, but from what I found on the web not at this price range.
The other component M22 is also quite remarkable (on the paper). ES9018 chip, phono stage, HDMI inputs, balanced outputs, crossover function for mains and subwoofer etc. Plus few extra spots for future MDC modules. Well, M22 isn't cheap $3.5k, but given all the features... The only thing missing is DSD support. For some this might be deal breaker. I am not so sure about it.
I am really interested in purchasing those two units.
Could someone put some thoughts on this combo, please? Especially on the quality of DAC implementation as I am confident the amp will sound great.

I have a sneaking respect for NAD. Beyond having one of their cheap CD players that's about it Did they have some well thought of amps in the 70s or 80s ?

They made good value for money amps, but this time it appears to me they went hi-fi. At least this is what I've read. I also checked some threads at Audiocircle and diy forums and noticed other reported M12 as good or better than their DIYs which is a quite good sign. It seems we reached times where the amps are extremely good and given the class D improvements (especially Hypex, and others which seem to be catching up) there is no more need for huge cases and many additional parts (producing cost got down a lot).
I am more interested in M12 performance. For me, this is the place where most of the improvement is expected, yet the technology ages rather quickly. I bet the average modern/today's DAC sounds better than top class ones from five years ago, which many had to pay big chunk of money for.
Event today we have some remarkable products like PS Audio Directstream DAC. It costs $7k, but it is "only" a DAC. On the other hand M12 is a DAC, but has many other features. It is modular, and costs the half of Directstream. Hence, I would really like to know what others who had a chance to listen to it have to say.

Jerry (Jandl100) has had a Nad amp he rated. I've only tried the cheaper ones.

Recently I read that part of the success of the original 3020 was, in fact, due to an error in the layout of the pcb, which introduced crosstalk between channels. When this was eliminated in the revised versions, they were less well received.

Well, I am not skeptical towards the amp itself. I more wonder what M12 is capable of and would like to hear what others (if any) have to say and if they could compare M12 to anything out there.

I do not have DAC but I am using the direct digital amp which works really well in my system as have efficient speakers It voiced a bit on the warm side but feed it a good source and it really awards I suspect the NAD M12 will be good
