I liked the 20X2L and found it 'dark' but potent. I would guess the XX2 Mk.II would be another step up the ladder with a similar family sound? Just been responding to an email from Gordon. Given that I failed to understand that the XX2mk2 and 20X2L were different cartridges until I actually had one it may be worth emphasising they are different. I have compounded the confusion by referring to Martins "dark" reference, as though it were the same cartridge he was talking about (and at the time I thought that was the case) They are different cartridges, and so there is a decent chance they sound different. Broad differences include DV20 has aluminium cantilever a micro ridge stylus and neodymium magnets, and the xx2mkii has boron cantilever, pathfinder line contact stylus, and alnico magnets. They share the same body and flux damping system. So, system interactions apart, the DV20 may well be dark whilst the DVxx2mkii might not Or not? And I thought Goldrings model range numbering was confusing Comparing the XX2 to the DV20 would, IMO, be a tad unfair for both cartridges. The XX2 is very closely related to Dyna's higher end offerings, the Te Kaitora and even the DRT XV1, as they share the same cantilever, stylus, magnet and damper. If I am not mistaken, the only real difference between the XX2 and Te Kaitora is the body material: aluminium for the former, as opposed to Titanium for the latter. I would thus think of it as a "budget" or "scaled down" Te Kaitora/XV1 version, at a fraction of the price, specifically intended to compete at the crowded, very competitive (almost cut throat) 1000-1500 euro segment of the market. That being said, having heard the XX2 and compared it to the Benz Wood, Transfiguration Axia (my former cartridge) and Lyra Delos, I must say that the Dyna is a very fine cartridge indeed. I distinctly remember it trouncing over my Axia (one of the reasons why I let it go) and, IMO, outperforming the Benz. Very close call with the Lyra Delos but, if I was looking for a cartridge in that price range, I would probably go for the Dyna myself. Anyway, happy listening!!

Excellent, thanks. I do have a soft spot for Dynavector cartridges, and possibly should have tried an XX2 Mk.II over the 20X2L at the time. It would be very interesting to compare one with my Shelter 5000, which is also a very fine cartridge.

I thought I posted this the other day I remain thoroughly impressed with this cartridge. It was exceptional from the moment I fitted it. So much so it over-ruled budget restrictions from Sue. Not "I thought we were saving up for the move to France." but, "you'll have to buy it". Can't really find a weakness. Lovin it
