Nice - I love that last photo! That was the view from the swimming pool/sun bathing area . There had been rough weather during the night and it was still quite spectacular in the morning.

A friend of mine lived for over 20 years down on one of those beaches (Playa Nueva, I think) before the EU decided to pump huge amounts of money into the Island. They destroyed the little village which had formed on and built a long concrete ramp so that the tourists would not get any sand into their sandals. They also built some large roads and roundabouts which lead nowhere. Then they realised that those little villages where in fact a tourist attraction and left one near Puerto Naos. Good surfing down at Playa Nueva when the weather is right.

Yes that last one caught the light and moment perfectly! All lovely compositions ... So how do you rate La Palma as a holiday destination?? This is our second visit we went last March as well , the mountain/volcano range sweeps gently to the west where they have lots of sunshine , the eastern side has a sharp drop and the cloud can hang around. The west is extremely quiet , Puerto Naos has one large hotel (there are no others in the west) and is a very nice mini resort , Los Llanos de Aridane the largest town that side and Puerto del Tazacorte a very pretty place , more northern places are mountainous with lots of windy roads. The east has the airport , the capital Santa Cruz del La Palma and more hotels , there are two big isolated hotels in the south at Los Canarios. The island is a walkers paradise with the old paths the islanders used to use before roads . Also a place for stargazers : La Palma Astrophysical Observatory on the roque de los Muchachos is a collection of telescopes operated by institutes and scientists of Europe , and is one of three best observatories on Earth and it is home to the largest optical telescope in the world. It is a very clean , quiet island and is also called La Isla Bonita (The Pretty Island). I would never recommend a holiday destination because we all like different things but I will be going again.

I really like the look of it all - the fact that it's quiet is a major plus for me! Would need to keep my 10 year old entertained though ...
Presumably it can be done quite economically?

Not sure who flies there other than Thomson , the flight is always the majority of the cost. 10 year old daughter , yikes , swimming pool required obviously

The photo of the village, as well as the last one, are excellent. I'm not a seaside seeker but that looks like a nice place to be.

Brits are quite scarce in the places we went , never heard a single English word spoken in our hotel last year and only a couple this year , all Dutch and German , I think the Brits stick to the Eastern side. There are a few hippy types knocking about who seem to be English , these were in this photo from last year :
the older guy on the left spoke with a real upper class accent , I had quite a surprise it seemed so out of place , orange nail varnish as well
