Am I the only one who never uses Recent? It would seem so. My 'favourite' / bookmark thingy for TAS takes me to Recent. So there is a Home page is there? - fancy that. I don't like the look of the collapsared TAS home page so voted No. But it's irrelevant to me anyway. Recent's where it's happening, Marty. Where all the action is. Homepage. Thing a the past, mate. A say, thing a the past. Innit.

Good grief, people. How difficult can this be? I never use Recent!

I was stuck on Breadcrumbs. An odd metaphor if that
Hmm I'll try that a bit

They're called breadcrumb trails on all websites as they show you where you are in the tree (to be able to find your way back).

Whilst I voted "No" it wouldn't matter at all if they stayed collapsed, because I use "recent". You guys are trying to think of others newly visiting the site and that's admirable. Might it be worthwhile re-setting the vote and adding a "don't care/doesn't afffect me" category? I'd change my vote to this if it was available.

Thanks, Andrew. A few replies to this:
1) we can't change the voting parameters once set 2) yes, Chris was thinking of new members and not swamping them with a mass of choices 3) the home page state is saved per user so if you like them all expanded then they will stay that way 4) agreed that a different point of entry, for instance via 'Recent', renders the whole issue academic

Martin, the homepage is what your parents would use. Us young 'uns want the raw excitement that only the recent can offer.
I was using the homepage - but them a friend put me wise. NOW, I'm a hit with the girls and popular with my mates.
So can you, Martin.
Recent: Be There - Or Be Square.

Thanks Martin. I removed my "no" vote as I don't want to deny someone else when it doesn't affect me. I hope that's ok

I can only say that as a forum administrator I sometimes need a top level overview and the Home Page does that nicely, including the stats at the bottom. I have never been 'down with the kids' or streetwise so why start now?

Question to everyone: once you've expanded the categories, there is no difference between having the plug-in and not having it and your settings are remembered. Secondly, if you go in via Recent you're not affected anyway. So on that basis, is there any compelling reason for removing this feature?

I agree with previous comments that it doesn't look inviting or interesting to the casual internetter that just happens across it via a hifi search, for example.
1st rule of selling is to make it easy for the buyer. I think many will just pass on without bothering to open the rows, whereas an already open set of thread titles might just pique their interest. What's the benefit of having it collapsed when you first come across it?

I think we have varying opinions on that, which is why we wanted feedback from all members.

Answer I haven't seen any suggestion that your feature is removed and am concerned as to how you believe anyone does want it removed. For you and the few who value the Home Page - fine. I cannot see what is useful about hiding the section contents. It may not be obvious that one clicks to open the hidden topic areas. I am puzzled. One thing that has become apparent is the almost none recognition of how most users use the forum by the few who setup and run the site. I trust this will open minds to the userbase. Sorry if a bit undiplomatic
