Not something you generally think about, they're two-a-penny I know. However, spend a tiny little bit of dosh and you can get one that will last you years and like any good component you'll forget you've got it...until you have to use one of those foam -rubber abominations again. I've just replaced mine after 8 or 10 years and there wasn't really much wrong with it other than the odd cigarette burn from when I used to smoke. It's bigger than a "standard" mat, and a bloody site heavier. This one will NOT slip around your desk. The wife bought me mine, and I still maintain it's one of the best presents she's ever bought me. Treat yourself and you'll wonder why you ever used those cheap mats that curl up at the edges. www.amazon.co.uk/Allsop-Redmond-Premium-Steel-Framed-Durable/dp/B002JPJU78

£15 ?!
I use a round, quite thick cork place mat - doesn't slip around, works fine.
I used to have one of those foam rubber abominations and agree that are not really fit for purpose.

I use a very old Fox Software mat at work.
Great mat. just needs cleaning every now and again
At home I have a pad of white card that ended up being used due to lack of space - that works well too !

That Allsop mat does look rather nice! -- but it does look a bit large for my setup.

I haven't used a mouse mat for longer than I can remember, so space isn't an issue

Yeah I like a good mouse mat - I bought mine, along with an optical mouse and a mechanical keyboard, primarily for gaming, but they very much improve the experience of more mundane interections with the PC.

I use keyboard shortcuts a lot, but still like a good smooth mouse experience.

Haven't used a mouse mat for yonks. My favourite mouse (apart from Jerry) is a very old Logitech Bluetooth job and it's favourite surface is my Birch desktop ... bye bye annoying floppy things with daft logos on them

Hey, here's my one Good grip, doesn't slip - fits nicely into the spaces available for it.

I only use trackballs. It is far easier and less stressful.

I haven't used a mouse mat for longer than I can remember, so space isn't an issue Quite so - in days long past mouses could be temperamental things and only by using a mat could you ensure they worked consistently. Todays mouses are much more reliable and flexible and I don't think you need a mat anymore. I use my mouse on every type of surface you can imagine, including my leg and the arm of the sofa when I have the laptop going. (p.s. I'm still convinced that the plural of mouse, in computer terms, is mouses, and not mice)

I use keyboard shortcuts a lot, but still like a good smooth mouse experience. Amazes me how many people don't know keyboard shortcuts. So much faster Especially with an IBM clicky keyboard
